Apple - TV (Home Theater) Review Summary

One good electronics product for the fan of itunes is the Apple TV Home Theater. This home theater offers easy setup and easy interface according to our reviewers and it also provides instant access to itunes as well as streamlining video. Apple TV Home Theater provides the viewer with an “Awesome Picture, Quick Downloads, Movies at Your Fingertips” and it “Makes TV Fun Again”. Pressed for something negative to say about the Apple TV Home Theater, reviewers say that the unit does tend to get a little warm and they also make mention of the limited resolution. Overall, however, the Apple TV Home Theater is still a very good component of an electronic Home Theater, but it may not provide enough sophistication for some users.

I watch almost all my TV via iTunes for a variety of reasons. Apple TV has made it so much easier to access that content as well as all my content in my iTunes library via my TV. The interface is so easy, just what you would expect. The problem is not as much with Apple TV as with the video content iTunes sells. Until they sell video that is not made for the iPod, it will just look OK on a big flat screen TV. What's the point of an HDMI connection with iTunes content. I expect this to change in the future. Apple has got to start selling at least DVD quality video soon.

Another great innovation from Apple. It makes TV viewing really enjoyable, you can do lots of fun things with it...If you are constantly purchasing/renting and downloading movies and TV shows to your Mac or PC, well, you are in for a treat. You don't have to watch them from your computer..You can enjoy watching them on your widescreen TV and your surround audio system.. You simply set up your Mac or PC and with the Apple TV device, everything you want to view is transferred to your TV. You can also listen to your music on your home theater system from your iTunes collections...And to make it more...

When I bought my Apple TV, I did it with the sole intention of using it as a bridge between my iTunes library and the TV in my living room to play music. I live in an older house that my wife wanted to keep the 1st floor living area free of stacks and stacks of electronics. Also, my hearing isn't what it used to be so playing music thru a TV was just fine with me. I'm sure there are those out there who cringe at the audio quality, but when you are listening to Mary Poppins with your kids, TV speakers are good enough.

The Apple TV allowed me to make my entire CD collection available to the whole...

Apple TV completes the missing link in any home media hub. Connects seamlessly to an iTunes music and video library of any size. Don't let the size of the HD in the Apple TV limit you -- it streams over wi-fi seamlessly. A whole-hearty recommendation.

At Macworld in January of this year, Apple formally announced the Apple TV (previously known as the "iTV"), an iTunes-compatible streaming media device meant to revolutionize the way we watch television. The announcement of the Apple TV also came at a time when Apple unveiled the iPhone and officially changed the company name from Apple Computer to Apple Inc.-a move that indicated Apple's seriousness in focusing more on lifestyle products for the general consumer than on traditional computers. Today's Apple wants into every facet of our lives, including our living rooms.

And so, after several...

I hacked the Apple TV by purchasing the program from ATVFLASH.

Once you unlock the ATV, there is no stopping you.  I have a time capsule router hooked up to the cable in my home theatre stack.  The ATV is hooked up via ethernet to the time capsule.  I have port forwarding to another computer in the house that I use to download whatever I want to the USB drive hooked up to the time capsule. The USB drive is 1TB.

So, it works like this:

The ATV streams movies from the shared USB drive.
The pictures from my itunes are also synced to the ATV.... they are my screen saver.

I have a Logitech 720...

The Apple TV has revolutionalized the way to rent movies. You can select a movie, download it online, and begin playing it in a few seconds. The transfer of the data from your computer to the Apple TV is very quick. You can either download movies directly to the Apple TV or you can download them to your computer and transfer them to the Apple TV. Files are large so I would recommend buying a large storage disk to save all the movies once you have watched them. You can either buy movies or rent them. If you rent you have 30 days to play it, so you can setup a time to download movies and then...

I got one of these for my in-laws, and one for my parents. Neither of them are tech-savvy, but both enjoy their Apple TVs very much. They don't use their Apple TV to watch movies, podcasts or listen to music. Instead, they both use it to watch their vast libraries of digital (or scanned) photos on their TV. My in-laws have a large iPhoto library and my parents have a large directory structure on their hard drive with photos. Both work well when watching the photos. It's turned their new 42" LCD TVs (both got new ones in the last year) into large "slide show viewers".

I had just intalled my AppleTV, and it was easy, I love the fact that I get all the entertaiment from my computer (movies, tv, music, podcast, youtube, pictures) on my livingroom. worth getting it.
One thing I was worried about the reviews before I got it, was that you couldn't turn it off, but the new software update allows you to put it on a stand-by mode to save energy.

Get your DVD collection without buying it, just google "Handbrake" a free software to extract video from dvd's to mp4 format.
