Apple PowerBook G4 Mac Notebook —
I've owned my 12 in G4 Powerbook since it was bought new as a gift. I love the lightness of it (compared to my WallStreet, tho I loved that one too, compared to the Radio Shack one I had before it). I loved the titanium look.
Macs ARE intuitive, even for and unintuitive person like me. I was switched from PC's to Macs in 1989 and have rarely gone back, even when Windoze came out (or as we "Mac Addicts used to like to call it "Mac 89").
Like my WallStreet before it, I bought the AppleCare package (which adds two more years to your warranty, thus giving you a three year warranty instead of the usual one -- definitely a good thing to buy on a laptop which gets moved around a whole lot more than a home computer system), which I definitely got my money's worth out of, even tho Apple is getting a little less generous in what they'll fix, vs. what they call "user abuse/misuse"). So I can't complain, and generally advise people to buy it (you have up to a year to the day you bought your Mac to buy it, and it's definitely worth it!
I just found out that you need to bring it in for one thing at a time, or else the store will send it to Apple, and in general, Apple is a lot pickier than the local stores (I shop at Small Dog Electronics, which is now conveniently located here in Burlington, VT, as well as Waitsfield, VT, which being an hour away was not so convenient. Apparently, if there are two or three things wrong, the store HAS to send it to Apple to fix, and, as I said, they are pickier.
I don't think you can go wrong with any apple product. I don't know of anyone who has any serious complaints (or at lest complaints that can't be fixed eventually).
Small Dog used to specialize in selling "last years technology at a highly reduced cost compared to the brand new stuff Apple is constantly coming out with, but they've changed with the times (or Apple is no longer allowing older versions to be sold thru "Apple approved stores"). Which is a bummer, because unless you are one of those tho must have the latest, greatest and fastest, I think that's the way to go. That way the "early adapters" can work out the bugs and I can benefit from their learning curve.
The only con is that the 12 inch is the hardest one to work on, so the do-it-your-selfers can really mess up the computer badly (I know, we tried, fortunately it was still covered by AppleCare). I kinda wish I'd gone the extra 6-8 ounces and gotten the 15 inch (plus the extra screen space would have been nice).
Well, that's my take on the Apple G4 laptop. My friends who have the 17 inch love theirs, but it's so heavy. But what a heavenly screen!
