About a year ago I start a new job in which our development environment is the Mac Book Pro. In my previously life I had been a pretty hard core Linux guy -- I only used Windows when I had to. I've grown up usign PCs. When I found out that Macs were highly recommended for art/design majors, I was a little skeptical about getting one. When it arrived however, I was really pleased with the packaging and appearance. It was very professional and easy to understand. Setting up the macbook was fast and easy, and now I'm completely in love with it. Its very quick, never freezes, and I never encounter any major problems. Great product -- met and exceeded my expectations. I had been a mac user from the early days (got the original Macintosh in 1984), but due to work, switched to a PC many years ago. When it became possible to run Windows on a Mac (real Windows, not an emulation), it allowed me to return to a mac and I love it. We were Mac users years ago. As my family grew and increased computer needs and wants, Mac software options did not; so, we became PC users. I, being a desktop publisher missed my Mac. We currently have a reasonably new PC desktop, but jumped at the chance to get a Mac laptop. The MacBook Pro comes closer to living up to its hype than any other product I have ever bought. I have had five laptops in the last six years. I currently still have a Mac powerbook 5 years old and a new MacBook Pro. I have been very happy with Macs. I first turned to Apple since I am a elementary teacher and now am a grad student always on the computer. They run so much quicker than any PC I have used in the past. I have been extremely happy with the quality- I have never had even a problem with a virus (luckily). The MacBook Pro is great, but I have been having so many issues with the battery and charger. I have a few friends who also have it and we all experienced battery/charger issues. My battery would only last for about 10 minutes (if I was lucky) then my computer would just shut off. I returned it to Apple and they sent me a new one, but it was such a hassel! I only had this laptop for about 3 months before it started acting up. Then after I got my new battery, my charger fried and the plastic around the wiring started to melt! I've been really happy with my new MacBook Pro as a recent convert from a lifetime of PCs. It's got great style, runs all of the sound and design programs I need, and integrates beautifully with my camera, wireless network, and anything else I've ever needed. — The only negative was that it came with a faulty Logic Board - the screen had problems displaying solid colors without noise. Although Apple computers are a little more expensive, they are DEFINITELY worth the extra money. Apple has continued to produce electronics that become more and more consumer friendly, every little detail of the Apple is designed to make the user happy and you can tell. From the power cord that detaches easily (so you don't pull your whole laptop off if you trip over it) to the scroll feature on the mouse pad...use 2 fingers and you can scroll down on the screen. I have never owned a Mac - or used one for an extended period of time before I bought the MacBook Pro. I was initially going to just by a MacBook - but I ended up getting the MacBook Pro because it had the bigger screen - and I am so glad I did. Most of you might not need the bigger screen for average stuff like writing, email, web browsing and such - but if you are going to be doing stuff like using Photoshop - the bigger screen is helpful. We unfortunately switched to Dell computers a few years back. Everyone was soooo happy. They were so tired of the "tired, slow machines" and when we got the new ones - wow - so much better. DUH!!! The MAC's we had were ten years old, had little memory and were networked with a computer not a real server. I was sullen and thought, well if we had to have PC's at work, I'd better get a PC at home. BAD MISTAKE. Wow what a bad mistake. I had a Powerbook that was having problems, so Apple upgraded me to the MacBook Pro. As a photographer and musician, I absolutely love my Mac. I still have the PowerPC version of Photoshop I had with my PowerBook, but I don't see much of a lag using Rosetta. I'm excited to see how fast the performance is once I upgrade to the Intel version of CS 3. It is also amazing for recording, and I don't have a problem with the programs crashing every few steps, as I've experienced with every Windows machine I've used to record.
