I spent the first two years of college fiddling around with three different laptops - two Sony Vaios and one Dell - all of which had malfunctioned in one form or another within six months of the purchase date. None of those laptops were used, either. I gave up on PCs in March 2006 and bought my first Apple: a PowerBook G4. Imagine my suprise when after the first week of use I tried to my Mac on in class and only received a black screen staring me in the face. I immediately took my PowerBook to the Genius Bar at my local Mac store and demanded to know why my fourth computer in two years had blown up!

I was told that my computer had simply had some sort of construction problems and a bad hard drive. Here's where it gets good, though. Rather than make me ship my new computer off to California for repairs, Apple offered me a brand new computer - free of charge! The best part: true to Mac form, the company had discontinued the PowerBook line almost a day after I'd bought my computer, so they were no longer selling them. I got a brand new MacBook Pro for the price of a PowerBook. I've never gone back to a PC.

Sure, a lot of what Apple is about is the reputation and style. It's so much cooler to be carrying a Mac around than a Windows computer (no matter what you say), but I love my Mac because it's easy to use, never has a virus, never has a pop-up ad and includes a zillion different programs when you purchase it. No need to go out and buy new programs (other than Microsoft Office). The built-in webcam is also a plus. Also, Apple always has some sort of student discount going on, and although I am no longer a student I definitely appreciated it when I was going through school.

The only problem I've run in to is my complete disregard to Apple's requests that I install computer updates. If you continue to put that off, you'll end up slowing your computer speed down. I've also had some issues w/ my MacBook Pro freezing if I do not complete the uploads soon enough. I think part of that may be because the computer is 2.5 years old and was one of the first MackBook Pros, too. Everyone knows that you should never buy a new Apple product at its release. Wait a week or two so they can get the glitches out.

Happy Mac-ing!
