Cannot download some programs., Not all software is compatable

My husband purchased my Mac for me because of how involved in digital photography I am. I used to use PC's all of time but since I got my MAC, I have transferred almost everything to my MAC and even purchased a mini to use as a desktop. The only con is the fact that quite a few programs are not compatible with the MAC.
