Apple MacBook Notebook —

My old iBook laptop was dying a slow and painful death. It was miserable, and so was I. It would die out on me for no apparent reason, causing me to have to jump it with the battery or simply restart. The screen is so dark now, I can hardly see on it, and it also flickers intermittently making it look like a complete burnout is imminent. I have an Apple Care warranty on it for a few more years, but I just couldn't bare to be without it again for a few days after already going through that a few times. I thought what I would do would be buy a MacBook, which would be much bigger and more helpful, and then my kids could use the older laptop for homework if the regular desktop computer was in use, and it would suffice as a great backup to a newer model as well.

The MacBook seems to have everything I liked about my old iBook, but is just that much newer and better, more evolved. I guess it's like my iBook all grown up. I has four times the storage memory, something I was in despite need of, working with only 6 or 7 Gigabytes empty usually on the iBook. As far as operational memory and processor, it has it going on there as well, with an Intel Core Duo. It's actually hard now to come back to the old iBook for one reason or another as it seems to just drag.

Another nice improvement is the screen size. It's basically as tall as the iBook, but it's wider, making everything seem much better and leaving the watching of movies and DVDs to be more enjoyable, as I don't feel I'm watching in a box. I have to mention here the neatest feature of the new Leopard OS, Front Row. With this application you can play your movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, etc. With the handy little remote that's provided you can enjoy your viewing and listening from across the room, and Front Row can access it all from that one application.

The most wise improvement, that shows Apple is listening, is the cord functions. For one, everything plugs in on the same side this time. For another, the power adapter is magnetic, instead of being handled with a standard male/female thing. I went through numerous plugs in the lifetime of my iBook, and the problem is, they would sometimes break off inside, meaning I'd have to have it repaired. With the MacBook,it's magnetic, and drops off with the slightest bit of pressure, so there is no breaking off inside, and nothing to be damaged internally.

The one feature I haven't used yet, but hope to soon, is the iSight camera, built into the top of the lid. The only reason I haven't played much with it yet, as I never feel I look good enough at the time I think about playing, and don't want any pictures of myself that way. And when I am, I'm too busy. I'll get that straightened out sooner rather than later, though, even if I have to go do the makeup and hair just for my iSight debut.

The MacBook was definitely a wise investment for me. There has not been one disappointment or one thing I wish it would do that it doesn't. And the best of all was that I bought it from the Apple Store refurbished, meaning I saved a couple hundred dollars. It's the same model they're selling new and comes with a standard warranty, so I saved the money and am no worse for wear.
