I've had a macbook now for four years. Before, I had only used PC laptops and desktops and was unfamiliar with the OS X operating system and the mac interface. I switched to a mac after having problems with my Dell laptop. It took me awhile to get comfortable with the changes on a mac, particularly with finding programs and applications, but after a month it was so much easier to use. Spotlight makes it very easy to find what you are looking for. In addition, the laptop is so much lighter to carry or actually use on your lap than any other I have used. This makes it easy to carry around in a backpack or take with you to class. The student discount helps a lot too. The 13" screen is large enough to view photos, movies, or type documents while remaining portable and easy to take with you. The built in camera is lots of fun to use with Photobooth to take fun pics and the microphone is great for having audio chats or video chats (like Skype). The interface looks attractive and the picture quality is impressive. All of the fun apps and widgets for mac are also a plus-anything from weather to sticky notes to flight times right at your fingertips on the dashboard. The computer runs fast and updates are easy to install. The tech support is also great. I definitely recommend purchasing the applecare protection. I've had a few problems with my mac (with the fans running, etc) but I took it to the apple store to have it fixed at the genius bar. This service is great and I had not been satisfied with Windows PC service on any model. It's great that Apple has someplace you can take your laptop if it malfunctions. And if you have applecare protection, you don't have to pay for repairs. Overall, it's been a great computer. I could run Windows on it if I needed to, but I haven't had any compatability issues with windows docs or programs. I would recommend this computer to mac or pc users, students, or anyone looking for an inexpensive laptop that will last for a long time.
