Apple's Ipod Shuffle (1st Gen.) is okay, but I have had many problems with it and my computer.  Generally, computers can take software from many different makers, but Apple needs to make their devices more compatible to other Operating Systems. I had purchased one of these IPOD Shuffles for my 7 year old son who very much enjoys music and childrens audio books. It is a life saver on long trips. He has had the shuffle for about 1 1/2 years and it is still a great little gadget. I highly recommend this product to anyone at any age. Purchased this product for a young man who tends to manage to break everything he touches. This has held up for over a year.  It is used daily. It's very compact.
