Apple Airport Extreme Router Review Summary

Apple has long had a reputation for serving up innovative and reliable products and the Airport Extreme wireless router continues that fine tradition. Our community of reviewers overwhelmingly regards the Airport Extreme, as one of the best wireless routers they have used; one review stated: ”Once I got the router set up, it swiftly delivered on its promise of fast speeds.” The Apple Airport Extreme offers many of the advanced features one would expect to find on any wireless router including adherence to the 802.11N as well as the slower 802.11B/G. In addition the Airport Extreme offer (3) 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet ports, DHCP, (1) USB port, and uses the latest (WPA2) wireless security protocols. Although a little more expensive than comparable units, Apple is known for its dependability and solid performance, but one review did note that the router can be difficult to set up. However, overall reviewers highly recommend this router for its feature set, performance, flexibility, and its robust security protocol set. Being Really Fast Compensates for other Big Flaws — I recently switched from PC to Mac and bought a Macbook Pro. While I was at the Apple store spending way too much money, I decided that I'd drop another $179 to purchase their new Airport Extreme Router. I used to have a Linksys wireless router on my PC, and I had to reset it all the time. It was complicated to set up, and hardly ever worked properly. — I finally became fed up and bought the Apple Airport Extreme. I am well aware of Apple's reputation for excellence, so there was really no question about what I was going to buy. The Apple Airport Extreme is such a reliable piece of equipment, advanced and really easy to set up. If you are planning to go wireless, this, in my opinion, is the way to go. Setting up is basically plug and play, which means plug it in and begin using it. For the price of the airport extreme, you get a quality product, in which the manufacturer stands behind. I have had my wireless system in place for the last 5 years and have experienced no problems with it since the first day of setting it up. I purchased the Apple Extreme Base Station because of the problems I was having with my Linksys g wireless router. I would lose connection more than twice a day, was limited to the distance we could be from the router and had on many occasions called the local ISP to see what might be wrong. This router was located in the room where the computers were set up. Since replacing the Linksys — router and purchasing the Apple Base Station Extreme we do not lose the signal, can be over 100 ft from the router and not lose the signal. I have been using an Airport Express for a while, and I got the Airport Extreme for my mom - who uses a PC. — I set it up for her last Christmas while we were visiting, and she hasn't had any problems with it since. — The only drawback that we have found is that she can't run her stereo from it (like the express). — It works great for long ranges too - she often sits outside in her yard to surf the net, and there isn't any problem. — It works equally well for Mac & PC computers. This was the first wireless router I was able to hook up my Apple laptop, mac mini, 2 PC desktops, one with Windows 98 and other with ME and two laptops one with Windows 95 and Vista. Now I just have one printer and I am loving it. I might be high price, but speed and distance is great. Service was great with help setting up all computers. I've used wireless routers from Cisco (Aironet), Linksys, and D-Link over the years, and the Apple Airport Extreme is the best by far. Apple always delivers on its claims… the public might not always agree, but products ALWAYS deliver! I have used the Airport Extreme Router since January and it is faultless and efficient, stable and reliable on both 2.4GHz & 5GHz settings. I use PCs and Macs on my home network in a large soviet-type building with super thick concrete walls. I use an old PowerMac G4 500 server upgraded to 1.24GHz with 270GGB storage, 128GB graphics card and cable ethernet from the router.
