Despite some bad reviews this hotel is wonderful. It is located only 2-3 minutes from the subway which is only a 5 minute ride to Syntagma or Monastiraki. The hotel room was well kept and perfect for one person. (As a warning to Americans, European rooms are generally smaller than American rooms particularly bathrooms.) The only thing lacking at the hotel was the breakfast. It was satisfying but not quite enough. When I return to Athens next summer, I fully intend to stay here again. The Apollo is a small but friendly hotel. The hotel staff were extremely helpful during the check in process and recommended several worthwhile day bus trips and nearby restaurants. My wife and I particularly enjoyed the roof top garden where we had a casual drink while relaxing after a busy day. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The Apollo is close enough to the Plaka and Acropolis that it is a comfortable walk - about a mile. Breakfast at the Apollo was rather limited compared to other hotels in Athens and in Europe Only one restaurant - the Alexandar - was nearby but it is very good.
