"Apocalypto" accomplishes so much with so little. The movie is short on language and narration. But high on authenticity and quality. It is definitely worth the watch. It definitely makes you think.

Apocalypto (2006)

A great film for film's sake, director Mel Gibson made no compromises with his visual unfolding of a story of Pre-Columbian Central America with a peaceful tribe of hunters captured by the predatory Mayans who bring the captives back to be sacrificed to support their religious beliefs.

Gibson establishes the relationships between his characters, first showing us the peaceful hunting party killing a tapir and dividing up the prize. One warrior gets the heart, another, the ears, and another the testicles, which he proceeds to eat uncooked. This sets the other hunters to rolling... review »

This movie is a little out of the norm. It is a good movie however the subtitles can make it hard to follow. Mel Gibson did an excellent job at directing the movie. It does has some comedy. I like the one part where the guys get together and talk. The one guy plays a joke on his friend and he doesnt know whats going on. The guys lead him to believe that he is eating something good but it turns out to leave a bitter taste in his mouth. It does have action as well as suspense. Other then the subtitle in the movie it is a good movie and directed very well. If you have the time to read as well as watch... review »

Not my type of film.... that's what I thought.  Five minutes into it, I was hooked.  The costumes, special effects, directing, acting and plot were phenomenal.  Watch it!  The section at the end that showed how the movie was made was a "must see".  Don't watch this movie if you are weak of heart or stomach!

This movie was so great. My husband and I watched right after visiting Mexico for our honeymoon and we just had to watch it. So impressed with the way Gibson filmed it.

 I really liked this movie, regarding of whatever it's been said about Mel Gibson, he is a good director and has made good movies, I love his movies.

 Apocalypto was better than I expected, I just didn't like too much that it is in foregin language, but it is understandable that it was made in the language that the mayans spoke. The story and the action are pretty good and entertaining, they keep you woandering what's going to happen next.

 I don't think this is a movie for kids, it is too graphic for kids.

From what previews I'd seen from movie trailers, this was a film I wanted to see.  I thought I'd be captured by it's brutality.  Unexpectedly, I was riveted by the characters and watched the whole movie in its entirety (something I rarely do).  Aside from all the slaughterings (human and animal), this movie had heart and told a story that's not usually told by Hollywood.  Mel did a good job.

The Best Film in Years.

If there was ever a movie that you could enjoy in a foreign language without the subtitles, this is it. Insane action and scenes, reality like you've never seen it. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

This is my favorite movie and I watch alot of movies. The story line is wonderful and inspirational. Never give up.. The action is outstanding. You guys have to get this DVD..
