Ancestry.com  —

I used the free 2 weeks to get started in genealogy.  Didnt realize that after I attached files and the trial ran out that when I clicked on those files it would require me to pay to view them.  BOO!

They do have the monopoly on genealogy sites and information.  Noone else offers what they can.  Therefore it's the only option so people go back to them.

They are expensive, but do have great resources (thanks to all of OUR input). I assumed that my tree was mine and that I could print it out here at home, but no, you have to let them print it out for a very high price. This really upsets me.

This site is absolutely a monopoly - what I hate is that they take information gathering and collected by their own members and then re-sell that information to others. Of course, they have to keep their services running, but any information which Ancestry.com didn't collect on its own should be made publicly available. They act like the information they collect from their own members is their intellectual capital, when it's clearly not.
