To the Point

I love coconuts and coconut juice. You may have seen the prevalence of coconut related products. As it turns out when I did a search it seems that coconuts/juice has a lot of antioxidants in them. In addition Amy & Brian’s Juice is said to be one of the most concentrated sources of electrolytes, with more potassium than a banana and several times more than most sports drinks. .Sure they have a lot of fat too – but it’s good fat. This all brings me to my first 17.5 ounce can of Amy & Brian All Natural Coconut Juice with Lime.

A Closer View

This is unsweetened with 86 calories for each serving. There are two servings per can. The only ingredient is young coconut juice (which tastes much sweeter than a regular coconut – trust me on this one) and lime juice. There’s no saturated or trans fat.

Each serving has 40 mg of sodium, which is very little; no fat (in the juice – only the meat); 19 grams of carbohydrates making it a good post workout drink and 10 grams of sugar which is a lot but it comes from the coconut only. It’s best served cold.

It’s a pop top container which on the one hand means it is easily recyclable and on the other means that you should not keep any leftover juice in the can. If you don’t finish it all at one time put the rest in another container. In addition though I drank it at home in a glass if you are out and about it’s a bit clumsy to handle.

I hoped I would love it but I didn’t. It was just alright and I’ll tell you why. Since I love coconut but don’t love lime the flavor of the lime really was strong to me. I imagine they add the lime to cut down on the sweetness of the coconut juice. Maybe lemon would be better. In any case I would buy it again at about $2.29 at Whole Foods I found it refreshing and though not delicious a nice drink to pick me up.

I like both coconut and lime so i tried this. Didn't taste or smell like either and I didn't like the taste and consistency was almost slimy. maybe it's an acquired taste or something. I wish I liked it beacsue it's nutritional and better than energy drinks for the body.
