America's Next Top Model —

My mom and I got addicted to America's Next Top Model way back when it started in 2003.  I haven't watched all the seasons, but I've watched most of them, and I always look forward to the next one!

This reality show, hosted by Tyra Banks, sets out to find the Next Top Model!  Each season, Tyra hand picks a group of girls from the 100s (or more, I'm not sure) who audition.  They live in a house together and compete each week in various model challenges.  Tyra and her group of judges decide who makes it through and who goes each week.

What type of competitions do they do?
Well of course they do photo shoots - lots of photo shoots!  Each week they do a surprise photo shoot and all they know is a random clue that Tyra sends them.  The photo shoots are outrageous and surprising most of the time, and most of the time I wonder who would actually want a photo like this?  But apparently I don't know much about the "high fashion" world!  Lots of the photo shoots turn out beautiful, but some of them turn out strange and weird and even gross.

We do think that some of their competitions and photo shoots are a little bit too extreme, especially knowing that young girls watch.  The naked shoots are really not necessary, but they do one every season to prove that the models are willing to do it.  Apparently you can't be a top model unless you want to go naked!  Tyra knows young girls watch because she even said one season that they weren't allowed to smoke because of the bad example.  So if she knows young girls watch, you would think she wouldn't make the models do everything she makes them do.

You get to see cool places
Top model travels at least once a season to a cool place like China, for example, so you can see them model and just experience the unique culture of other countries.  This is a big part of why I like to watch the show.

Don't forget the drama!
The models live together, so of course there is drama!!  There always ends up being an outcast, or an outspoken one, or a know it all, or a "i just tell it like it is" one.  In the end, there is ALWAYS drama!  There is never a season where everyone gets along and loves each other to the end.  That, of course, just makes it more fun to watch and a lot of time brings some humor to the show.

Tyra is a little cookoo
But you gotta admit, she knows how to bring us an entertaining show.  As the seasons go on, you can tell Tyra doesn't care if people make fun of her.  She does silly things and doesn't care anymore, even though sometimes it's a little bit too cookoo for me!  I do think she actually cares for the models and wants them all to do well.

In the end
Women should love this show, as long as you get over the fact that size 10 is considered Plus Sized (or Full Sized) on this show!  Some of the girls will be ungodly thin (I don't think seeing bones is that attractive) but in the end I do usually think the winner was someone who deserved it and fits the part.  My mom and I love to watch and love to talk about it afterward.  Besides that, you'll probably learn a few tips about how to look good in a photo!!  Enjoy!!

PS: You can see the models pics online if you didn't quite get to see it during the show.  Sometimes they show them real quick and you didn't really get to see it.

Yep it's easy to get addicted. Even when I tell my mom I'm gonna skip a season, she usually tells me about it some and I get dragged in to the second half of the show.

I admit to being addicted to ANTM also. I didn't start watching until the middle of the 3rd cycle when Naima won. (I named my kitty (now passed away) after her because she had similar coloring and was as pretty as a model. :)
