Picture this...A big grassy front yard laying out before a house.  In the long grass is an animal with a white coat and black spots.  All of a sudden this animal takes of at a high rate of speed.  Now you're thinking, wow, that's a fast moving cow!  — Nope, it's my dog.  He looks like a cow, and prances around like a horse.  His name's Barkley and he's the best dog ever.  He's a Staffordshire Terrier, commonly called a pitbull.  He's loyal, fun loving, absolutely loves his tug tug and squeaky tennis ball.  He looovveess the car and if we're… read full review »

I adopted Oreo when he was 4 years old, after he'd been in the shelter for over six months.  This dog had so many strikes against him:  big, black, adult, a bully breed, and frankly, not the best looking dog in the world.  But, I asked the staff to show me their favorite dog in the shelter, and they led me straight to him.  They said his time was WAY up, but they hadn't been able to bring themselves to euthanize him because he was such a terrific dog.  I think he was waiting for me! — Oreo is an amazing dog.  He is fantastic with each and every person he… read full review »

Was given an Am. Staff. for Valentine's 14 years ago. She was the best friend a girl could have especially when living with an abusive relationship. When I left the relationship, I took her with me. She slept with me, let me cry on her shoulder and we had a ton of fun together. Many people warned me about the breed but have to say, I'd get another in a minute. She travelled the world with me and was a champ when she had to be in quarantine for over a month (I made daily visits with special treats and snacks). When I had my first child, she was in there like a dirty shirt to see what the… read full review »

I got a Staffie as a 2 month old puppy.  These dogs are highly underated and have earned an unneccessary reputation as a 'bad or dangerous dog'.  I have never met a more affectionate and loving pooch.  Typical puppy drama of chewing on things that shouldn't be but very repsonsive to training and rewards for good behavior.  Learned very quickly to go to the door for potty and picked up many tricks very eaily, sit, lay down, crawl forward, spin backwards, her favorite was keeping the treat on her nose until given the command to 'ok get it!".  I taught her with both… read full review »

I have 10 months old blue american staffordshire terrier male.  He's the best thing that has happened in my life in many years, I love every waking moment that I share with him.  I am a animal lover and had a few other dogs in earlier age.  Although all living beings are unique and special, Amstaffs are quite an amazing breed.  They're happy, passionate, so gentle and caring, and live life to its fullest.  It's so much fun to be around them.  They make a great bedwarmer as well, there's nothing I want more than waking up in the morning being licked all over my… read full review »

Before my divorce I had owned an Amstaff, and I have to say, she was the best dog I had ever owned in my entire life. Like everyone else, my husband was skeptical about getting her, because we had small children at the time, but I couldn't have asked for a better dog. She was smart, and house trained very quickly. She learned the basic commands easily, and could be let off leash with out taking off. She was so patient with the kids. They would climb and poke at her and she would just lay there. When she had had enough, she would just get up and walk away. There was an incident one day when we… read full review »

It is such a shame that uneducated people seem to think that all pitbull's are deadly. I myself bought an American Staffordshire about 3 years ago this Christmas; I bought him as a Christmas present for my boyfriend. I have to say this is this most loyal dog I have ever owned. He has never once been aggressive to me or anyone that comes over to visit. He may be a little leary at first until he gets to know them but then after that it's all good. He will give you kisses and lay his big old head on your lap when he knows you are sad or not feeling good. He is quick to let us know when company… read full review »

Its a shame that people look at a certain breed of dog and think wow it must be dangerous because the media says so.    I am just glad that some people have opened their minds and hearts to this great breed of dog.   — I have a 8 year old pitbull that loves children, dogs and people.   She hates mice and lizards.  She is afraid of the vacuum and being told that she is a bad girl.  (Usually for the dead rodent that she occasionally brings into the house.) — She is a great dog and no different then any other 80 pound lap dog… read full review »

This dog is probably the best dog I have ever owned. When we first got her I did a lot of research to find out if she was a threat to my two kids and my baby niece and nephews. Nothing I found said that she was. Even though I was still worried we got her anyway. Best decision I ever made. She was the best animal to train and never have found any animal more loving. The only downfall to owning her is she loves to dig up my yard and I can't seem to get her to calm down. … read full review »

Our dog is the best dog I have ever had.  Mika is loving, silly, playful, listens good, great with kid, and always ready to lounge around with me!  I would get another Am Staff in a minute!  The stereo type on these dogs are ridiculous.  Dogs are not naturally mean, people make them that way.  Stop persecuting the breed, and ban the evil people who abuse… read full review »

Did you know that in the 2006 American Temperament Test, this breed achieved an 84.4% passing score? So, how does that compare to other breeds you know? The Australian Shepherd achieved an 80.7%, the Golden Retriever achieved an 83.8%, and all dogs combined achieved an 81.5%! What does this tell you... the pit bull terrier breed can make great… read full review »

I was scared to get my Trixie at first due to all of the negative publicity. She is the most gentle giant I have ever owned. And I've had a lot of large dogs. She is just a big baby. I have to laugh at other people who are intimatated of her when they first meet her, just because of her breed. Could not ask for a more loving best… read full review »

This breed of dog is so unfairly discriminated against, as are all the other breeds making news today.  If we as a society are not careful, those anti-dog folks will make it illegal for us to own dogs; think PETA, the biggest anti-dog organization around. — I am a dog trainer of 30+ years, and an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator.  I have had this breed in my obedience classes and the dogs are a pleasure to work with, responding so nicely to anything that is asked of them.  — Any dog has the capability to be a "dangerous dog."  But one must understand,… read full review »

I always wanted a dog as a kid, but my parents were against it. As I grew older, I got a cat and decided that was the way my life would go. A few years ago I was working at an animal shelter and fell in love with a dog there. She was one of many pit bulls/amstaff's at the shelter, but there was something special about her. Her name was Kahlua and she was 2 years old. She had been seized from an abusive owner who said she was basically a terrible dog and you could do nothing with her. Somehow because of this belief by her, it justified her neglecting Kahlua for days on end, leaving her… read full review »
