This breed of dog is so unfairly discriminated against, as are all the other breeds making news today. If we as a society are not careful, those anti-dog folks will make it illegal for us to own dogs; think PETA, the biggest anti-dog organization around.
I am a dog trainer of 30+ years, and an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator. I have had this breed in my obedience classes and the dogs are a pleasure to work with, responding so nicely to anything that is asked of them.
Any dog has the capability to be a "dangerous dog." But one must understand, it is the people that make the dogs this way. If you warmly accept the dog into your family (pack), and you make an effort to understand the dog and train him, then you will encounter very few problems.
I strongly encourage anyone with this breed to seek out a competent trainer who can train and test you and the dog on the CGC test. Then when you have your certificate, proudly display it to anyone and everyone, and tell them what breed you have. It is only through your responsible efforts, that we will destroy all the anti-dog sentiments currently in our society. Noone should be discriminated against, and that includes our dogs. I have seen dogs that are so much better behaved than some people's children.
Anyone with this breed needs to check out the AKC website, for information on the CGC test. The program has been around since 1989 and is steadily gaining popularity, due to all the anti-dog legislation that is popping up around the country.
