I recently got a Blue Pit, (Staffordshire Terrier) and he is now 4 months old. I have grown up with pits all my life, LITERALLY, and they are just the best dogs you can own. The only other dogs ive owned were a Mini Daschund who i had to get rid of when she was 2 for biting my 9month old a few times and drawing blood! She is now 2, we have blue, our 4 month old pit, and Belle our 10 month old Daschund/Yorkie. They are the BEST OF FRIENDS, love my daughter, are very good with her, and are great lap dogs. Blue follows me around the house, lays at my feet, and cant get enough of cuddling with my husband and I, even my 2 year old sometimes. People who hate these dogs, just are ignorant of the breed. Do some research and you will find, if treated properly (like any dog) make a great family pet. And for those who Mistreat them to make them "Mean", should not own dogs. They are the people who give pits a bad rep.

I say, get a pit, you will be very pleased.

In response to k9ace's comment from Feb 23, 2008 at 7:55PM:

I agree. It's easy to run your mouth when you don't know what you're talking about. I tell everyone, dog owner or not, education is key. I totally agree about owners. We are the dogs guardians and it's up to us to protect our dogs and that means being, educated (can you tell I'm big on this), being responsible, socializing your dog, and not putting your dog in any situation where they might become scared and act out. I love that their are so many responsible dog owners out there, especially for dogs like ours.

You are absolutely right about ignorant people. You notice the loud mouthed people making all the noise are just pure and simple ignorant. They have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of canine behavior. Did you know that aggression is a normal and natural part of canine behavior. We as dog owners, must learn how to control and channel it so that it does not get out of hand.

I agree. I have an AmStaff too and he is excellent with kids. He lets them chase him and pull on his ears. And he plays fetch with amazing patience with the little ones (even kids he's never met).
