Movies have successfully played upon this theme for years.  Whether your thing is pro golf tours, beauty pageants, Nascar races, Dancing with the Stars, The French Open . . . we all want to see the Wild Card take away the crown.   Each season, CBS's American Idol gives 16 talented singers that chance . . . IF they can prove themselves under enormous pressure.   

Format  of the Show

American Idol to me is the best platform for unknown talent to show what they can do. Even though the judges get on my nerves at times, it still is one of the most entertaining Talent Show on television.

I like the fact that they have guest musicians as the mentors for the new talent. It is just another way you get entertained. I also like the way they have different Musical Genre Week. I think this helps the new talent to stretch their wings!

As far as the judges go, I really like Randy, I like Paula, and I even like Simon, except when he is so mean to people. I do NOT however like the new Kara....

Does anybody notice that all of a sudden you get 15 mins of show and the rest tv commercial.  I really like the show but this is getting out of control. Last nite there was so many ads I was ready to throw the tv out the window.  One of the few good shows on tv and they have to ruin it tell ya what next year they can count me out becuase i have a life and got better things to do than wacting some dumb ad about a man tryin to get a hard on. hahah  These advertisers have taken over the tv and now are computors and people fall for it it really is sad.  What I say is STOP BUYING THEIR JUNK.  keep...

I never really understood the hype of American Idol until I finally watched an episode.  The episode I watched featured the contestants singing songs from my favorite musician Bon Jovi.  The singers not only did covers of the band's hits, but they put their own unique spin on the rhythm and beat of the songs.  It was amazing.  Each week, the aspiring singers compete for the love of the judges and sing their hearts out for the ultimate prize.  Some weeks they are able to sing their own songs and other weeks they are given a specific singing mentor to sing their hits.  Not only are the contestants...

American Idol has remained on the top of the charts since it began airing several years ago.  Personally I think it is a very entertaining program.  The beginning auditions are unreal.  Thousands come to be a part of the action trying to make it to Hollywood.  The thing I will never understand is how half those contestants got the nerve to audition they must be tone deaf and delusional.  The actual competition is enhanced by the wonderful set of judges all of whom are unique and entertaining.  Paula Abdul will be sadly missed.  She was so supportive and thoughtful in all her comments and...

American Idol is great.  We have found some really great talent from this show.  I think that this season has some very talented people whereas some of the prior years didn't.  My favorite this year is Adam Lambert.  Not one contestant compares to him.  I have watched every year of idol and look forward to who's going to stay in the competition from week to week.  There have been some years that I thought people were voted out too early, especially in the case of Chris Daugthery.  His voice went right through me.  But I keep watching every year regardless of who has won each year.  We...

American Idol has created some amazing stars and some of them didn't even finish in the number 1 or number 2 spots.  The beginning when all types of people try out and the ones that are horrible but think they can sing is so funny!!   Kelly Clarkson ws the first to come out of this show and she was an instant success.  Carrie Underwood came along and evryone loved the girl from Oklahoma.  Chris Daughtery has estblished a great career from the show also.  The judges help make it what it is..  I can't wait each year for it to come back on .
