I started watching American Idol the year Fantasia Barrino won, and at first I wasn't really into it.
Now, I'm hooked.
The season starts with auditions that range from comical to breath taking to a little bit creepy. Automatically, you should be able to tell who will go far, and, at a glance, who won' t even make it to the first round.
The next round is Hollywood week, the most stressful of all. The aspiring singers have to sing in front of the judges and their potential competition, sometimes in groups, which always leads to a good fight or two.
After this, there is the "chair" episode. Contestants have to be narrowed down to the top 36. So, they will make the long walk to a chair that sits in front of the judges, and await their fate.
After this, voting starts. The judges now have no say, America chooses.
This year, there was a Wild Card round, where everyone voted off has a chance to come back, but the judges choose who gets through.
In the top twelve, they are now on a bigger stage, and the stakes are higher. For in the top ten, they get to go on tour over the summer.
Also, this year, a judge's "save" was added. If someone gets voted off, the judges have the chance to save them. But, there's a catch. The next week, two people will get voted off instead of one.
When it gets down to the top two, it is very intense. The finalists usually get one Ford car, each. This star-studded event is usually two hours, until we finally figure out who the next American Idol is.
There are four judges on this show: Simon (the one who knows what he's talking about), Paula (I have no idea what she's talking about, Kara (the fourth judge. Just plain annoying), and Randy (For me for you, man, dawg!). And then there's Ryan Seacrest, the judge.
Many careers have been made out of this show (ex. Carrie Underwood). But, the most important part is the voting. If you want someone to win, you should vote for them! Many people assume that their facorite is going to win, so they don't vote.
That is precisely what happened this year, when Adam Lambert didn't win. But, I guess that's the nature of the show. It's exciting, edge of your seat fun. It's awesome to know that you helped create America's next potential superstar!
