American Heritage Fireplace installs "gas logs" that sit in a traditional fireplace, look like wood, but are lit by gas. I will have to say I am a purist when it comes to fires. I love the smell of wood and the sound of crackling. There is nothing better to me than sitting near a warm fire on a cold winter day. However, our four year old has asthma and we have been advised that burning wood in the house could irritate his condition. For that reason, I finally broke down and had American Heritage Fireplace install some fake logs. We ordered the logset called Rocky Mountain Prehistoric logs. The logs look burnt and there is even a fuzzy material at the bottom that looks like ash. They actually look much better than I thought they would.
The best part is the kids love them. We use the fire even more now because we can turn it off and leave the house quickly. They read by the fire and really enjoy the whole experience.
The folks from American Heritage Fireplace were responsive, professional and very nice to work with. We have a few more fireplaces that I will use American Heritage for as well.
The logs were about $450 for a 36" x 18" fireplace and the labor was $125.
