When I was three years old, Santa brought me my Samantha doll with a trunk full of clothes and all of the books from her series. I found that Samantha was a doll that symbolized a fictional character from a point in the history of America. My father would read me all of the books and my mother and grandmother would make the two of us matching dresses and nightgowns. Samantha became my best friend and I still have her today. I still buy her little dresses from the American Girl catalogue and even though my grandmother is not still with us and I can't fit into those nightgowns anymore, I still dress her up in them and remember my favorite doll from my childhood.
Samantha is an 18" doll with plastic limbs, a plastic head, and a torso made of fabric. Her eyes are brown and her hair is brown, and her complection is a medium tone. Her eyes open and close and her hair can be done up in many different ways. All of the other American girl dolls are about the same as Samantha and come with a variety of hair colors and eye colors. You can also make an American Girl today doll and make her look just like your daughter, neice, grand-daughter. But I recommend the American Girl Dolls that tell a story about the history of America because I learned a lot from them and still make connections in my history classes.
I recommend Samantha to all little girls. The catalogue says 8+ but I got mine at 3. These dolls are special and made my childhood even more special. Also, don't worry about destructive little brothers, Pleasant Company has a Doll Hospital for them if anything should happen. You can read about that in the American Girl Catalogue that should come in the box if you order a doll on americangirl.com. Santa spent $84.00 on Samantha and it was worth it!
