American Girl Magazine

or $4.50 per issue on newsstands

American Girl Magazine may also be at your local public library.

My daughter loves her American Girl doll. American Girl dolls and accessories are expensive but are truly unique and well made. Now we have found the American Girl Magazine and I am so excited. I love to encourage reading and I treasure magazine subscriptions with worthy content, like National Geographic for Kids or others that get my kids excited about reading.

Before I tell you more about American Girl Magazine, I want you to know up front, there are No Ads in this magazine! I have concerns about ads in kids' magazines in general and I was worried that American Girl Magazine would have lots of ads for the American Girl dolls and their infinite supply of clothes and accessories. While the cover often features a girl with her doll, there are no ads for American Girl dolls or for anything else in this magazine. I searched and I searched and then I smiled a really big smile. Thank you American Girl magazine! So when you consider the higher price of this magazine compared to some, keep this in mind.

Features of the American Girl magazine:

Quizzes
Games
Girl to Girl Advice
Party plans
Crafts
Fiction stories
Non-fiction articles

We've enjoyed articles on everything from making a colored layer cake to unique pony tail hair dos.

American Girl magazine also spot lights young girls making a difference in articles like "Green Girls" about girls who work hard to protect the environment.

As an educator, I love that American Girls magazine actually has feature stories that are up to 8 pages long. So many magazines for kids only offer "quick hits" for kids. This is a great magazine for girls who really love to read.

Awards for American Girl magazine:

2006 Parent's Choice Silver Winner
1998 EdPress Award
The National Magazine Awards Finalist

My Viewpoint:
American Girl magazine is a perfect gift for girls 8 through tweens. A reader need not even be an American Girl doll owner or fan to enjoy this well done girly-girl magazine.

My daughter loved American Girl magazine. We used the ideas for many birthday parties. The dolls have been packed away for a future granddaughter, but the magazines are still on the shelf! I would highly recommend these magazines for any young girl.

I was subscribed to this magazine for years and at age 19 -- I still have them all! I can't tell you how many of my birthday parties were planned through American Girl. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

These magazines sound great, like they would be real "keepers". Believe it or not, I own an American Girl doll. I am a collector (usually of antique dolls) but the American Girls appealed to me so much, my aunt ended up buying me "Samantha" one Christmas. Every now and then, she buys me another costume or accessory and I even visited the American Girl place in the Loop and ordered Samantha's trunk for myself. I love that there is something so wholesome and enjoyable for the kids out there.

How much fun is this? I love the fact that it doesn't have ads, I worry about the perception of beauty in magazines, and actually try to avoid them in this house.
