American Forests —

I can't remember how I first came across americanforests.org; it seems like it might have been on Oprah, Ellen or some other day time show.  I always try to do my part for the planet; I bring cloth bags everywhere I shop, I recycle, I am very energy conscience, I buy green cleaning products & and all natural body care products.

American Forests is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1875 by "citizens concerned about the waste and abuse of the nation's forests".

When I heard that americanforests.org not only plants trees on your behalf for only $1.00 a tree, but you can also specify where you want your trees to be planted!  How great is that?

How it works...

You go to the website americanforests.org and click on the "donate" button.  Then it will ask you if you would like your trees planted where they are needed most (at their discretion) or if you would like to specify where you want your trees planted.  If you prefer to specify where you want your trees planted, there is a drop-down menu of projects to choose from.  They provide information about what the specific project supports that you would be donating your trees to.  Sometimes they are area specific projects like when I donated my trees to the California Wildfire Relief.  That project donated trees to the areas in California that were devastated by the enormous wildfires.  Either way, you are doing a great deed.  You can also give the gift of trees.  You have to option to donate trees in someone else's name and that person will get a certificate about the donation made in their name.

The website also has a "news" button with information and tips on "Green" topics from around the world, including new releases from major companies like Microsoft and their new "green" campain or interesting ideas like why Christmas trees are good for the environment.  There is even a section on how to plant trees yourself if you choose to do so.

The Scoop!

I think what American Forests are doing is amazing.  They are making it easy for anyone to be able to help the environment by planting trees for you at the low price of $1.00 per tree.  Charity doesn't get much easier than that!

In response to GigiandAdonai's comment from Dec 29, 2008 at 6:25PM:

It is something that is so easy to do, anyone can help the planet through their organization. Can you imagine if everyone just donated $1.00 to plant a tree?

Sounds like a great program! My house sits in the middle of the woods. Really! If you don't know how to get to my house then you don't know it's there. It isn't visible from the main road and you must drive down a long winding dirtroad to even begin to see the lucious green fields that my home sit on and in the back of my home is just a large forest!

That was nice of you to donate to the California Wildfire program. The forests are really being destroyed in your region. Ours are being destroyed for commercial gain ;+/ ~Gigi

It really is a great project. I wish I could tell everyone about it. Hopefully by me reviewing it, it will get more exposure. Thanks for reading.

I don't know anything about the time limit they have. I say, if the dog was malnurished and you would like to keep her, then she is yours to keep. It's the same way at an animal shelter. They give dogs to homes where they will be well taken care of. Congratulations on your new pet!

Hi, I wanted to ask your advice. I rescued this stray dog about 2 weeks ago. I've managed to have her shots done and took her to have a check up with the vet. Other than suffering from malnutrition, she is ok.
My question is this...How long does the original owner have to claim her? I'm so worried they will come for her and they CLEARLY were not taking care of her. Do you know if there is a time limit or what I can do? Thank so much

before my finger accidentally hit "enter", I was trying to say that I wish more people knew about American Forests.org since it really is so cheap to do something great. Thanks for reading.
