Good agents, poor service and payment on claims

Having to report damage to our home, not a problem.  But actually dealing with getting the money to get the roof fixed, that was a pain in the neck.  American Family wouldn't give all the money for the fix and the company that did the repairs needed 1/2 down to start the job, so it was a… read full review »

There's nothing better

We have been with our American Family agent for 5 years now.  He is wonderful & so personable.  He has always taken the time to address our concerns & point us in the right direction.  He is like family to us.  I have never had anybody go out of their way for us like this from any other insurance company or any business really.  Unbelievable service. —  We started with car insurance (switched to American Family because they were cheaper) & now we also have homeowners & a total of 8 life insurance policies!  We get great discounts on already low… read full review »

Local Agent had poor service - Not recommended in keokuk IA

After many years (10+) of insurance with them with no claims, and 20 years plus our grandparents before us, we have had nothing but grief with the Keokuk Ia. They said we had to put on new roof, we did. They said we had to reside the garage. We did. A year goes by. Then they said we had to reside the house - in the middle of winter deep freeze. We said first thing come spring - the contractors protected it with plywood and plastic where it had blown off. They said nope had to be now . So we did. American Family Insurance is a company that I have insured with for 16 years in the midwest.  I have a personal agent and a number to call 24 hours a day.  The auto claim service is a piece of cake to accomplish.  The home claims are more than fair, prompt and inclusive.  All the time I hear about companies that raise rates after a claim, and AMF has never done this to me.  My rates are actually lower because of the huge list of discounts they apply to my policy when it is reviewed each year before renewal.  I have done some work for this company and I was… read full review »

My husband and I had our car and renters insurance through American Family for 5 years with multiple cars. When our daughter and her boyfriend (now husband) moved in we were told we had to add them to our policy because they lived in our house. We were told the same thing about our 23 year old son who had his own vehicle. — It wasn't that they were driving our cars, they just lived here. Our rates went up.   I have had American Family Insurance for at least 6 years, I have car insurance and rental insurance with them.  I have had to use my renters insurance once, I had $250.00 worth of spoiled food, the insurance actually covered $500.00.  My claim was for $250.00 it was easy and fast to put a claim in. I have had American Family for over 40 years. Obviously I am satisified with them to have stayed with them this long. — We have our cars, home and trailer insured under one plan which helps save us money. — In the past, I went to an independent agent to shop around and they could not touch our rates. — I haven't had to make any claims since our kids stopped driving our cars, but even then the service was very good. I called several agencies when I was getting ready to buy my house 4 years ago to get insurance quotes for my house. We decided that since our car insurance did not offer homeowners that we would move our car insurance as well. American Family was the best quote that we received. They were about $100 cheaper than anywhere else. We have been with them for 4 years now and have never had a problem. American Family is a well-run company with great agents and good customer service.  However, their prices are not very competitive, and the agents are under such pressure to sell life insurance, it seems they won't stop asking about it!
