American Express - Preferred Rewards Green Card —
I've had my American Express Green Card for 10+ years. It works fine for the small stuff I buy when I don't have cash.
I am constantly getting phone calls & paper junk mail requesting I upgrade to a Gold or Platinum or whatever. My question is WHY?
Just so they charge me an extra $100+ a year for an annual fee for services I would never use -so it is pointless.
If you're considering getting an American Express, get the green and stick with it. I've never been impressed by someone pulling out a Gold Card. Nobody is impressed by that so don't bother upgrading unless you have a business account & your work pays for that increased annual fee.
The telemarketers that will call you will actually say ..."Oh, people will think you're important when you pull out an Amex Gold" NO THEY WON'T..ridiculous. I think most people will just be glad you paid a bill.
Keep in mind, Most businesses are starting to reject American Express. Many stores & restaurants will no longer accept it for payment. That is because American Express is notorious for slow reimbursements to merchants.
