Have been a frequent flyer with American Airlines for many years, and have rarely had a bad experience with them. The few times they disappointed me were more than made up for by the responses from their Customer Service employees.
Their frequent flyer program is great. I have never, ever had any problems getting the free flights I wanted. Have heard horror stories about people not being able to cash in on their frequent flyer points with other airlines. Has not been a problem with American.
Their Admirals club is the best. Service is exceptional. Employees are always friendly and glad to be of assistance.
American and American Eagle fly to just about anywhere you might want to go, so finding the right flight to your destination is not a problem. The only thing I sometimes dislike is having to fly through Dallas.
One year I flew to Florida for the New Years Holiday. I was scheduled to fly home on New Years Day and I needed to be back at work on January 2nd. Well, it was a small airport that I was flying out of. After getting checked in, I sat at the gate awaiting boarding. Time went on and it was obvious something was wrong. Finally, the gate agent told us that the flight crew had not shown up for the flight. All later flights that day were fully booked and so she could not get us on another flight that day. I ended up having to rent a car and drive to the nearest large airport in order to get home. I wrote a detailed letter to American explaining what had happened and the additional costs I had incurred as well as the hassle and frustration. They sent me a voucher for $500, plus the price of the car I had to rent to drive to the larger airport. To me, that was far more than I felt they owed me.
Another time, I was on my way to Denver. I had to fly to Dallas first and then was to connect to another flight to Denver. Upon arriving in Dallas, I found that all flights to Denver had been cancelled due to an impending snow storm. So, I was stuck in Dallas. Even though the cancellation was due to weather, American Airlines put me up in a 4 star hotel and provided me with meal vouchers for 2 days. I was extremely impressed with their understanding and caring for the customer.
I guess that I have been lucky to have dealt with some really good customer service people, as well as gate agents and ticket agents, as I have nothing but applause for the folks at American. They have never lost my luggage and they have never disappointed me.
I would recommend American Airlines to everyone.
