The first time we flew out to Vegas, we took Southwest and Continental Airlines. I am an extreme budget vacationer and research months in advance for the best price on our vacation. This last time we went we took American Airlines because they happened to have a better price at the time than any of the others. Our flight out was fine, we stayed for 5 days and arrived at the airport at 10:30 pm for our flight at 1:30 am. We went to check in on the computer and it would not let me check in, it only ordered me to see attendant. So I went up to the desk to find out how to check in, and the lady said, "You need to go stand in that line." She pointed to a long line of people who had not bought their tickets in advance and were waiting to purchase them. We stood in the line frustrated because we should have been able to go right through the check-in. The reason they have those computer check-in terminals is so that you can avoid standing in line. We finally get up there and they tell us that our flight from Dallas to Louisville has been cancelled because of tornadoes in Texas. She told us that we would be better off staying at the Las Vegas airport than flying to the Dallas airport and taking our chances there. But they could not get us booked on any flights home. My boyfriend was already tired, and we missed our kids and just wanted to go home. He got a little heated with the lady's attitude because she called him an ignorant jerk. They told us that they didn't have any flights available and that we could just go over to the benches and sit until Tuesday. This was a Friday night. She refulsed to help us at all after that and we were pissed! I finally went up there and tried to calmly and kindly ask for her help to find a flight. She handed me a 1-800 number to call to see if they could help. She would not even try to help! So I went straight to the phone and called the 1-800 number. The guy on the phone was very nice and had us booked on a DELTA flight from Dallas to Cincinnati, and Cincinnati to Louisville. Thankfully we had gotten to the airport early enough to still catch our flight to Dallas.
That woman at the American Airlines counter at the Las Vegas airport was the absolute rudest person I have ever encountered in customer service! We had no money for another stay at the hotel, especially since it was Friday night and the hotel rates go up to $300 or $400 a night. She expected us to sit at the airport for 4 days with no food or beds, just because she refused to put us on another flight. We will never fly American Airlines again. We did send a letter to the company about our horrible experience, and we basically got shrugged off. From now on we are sticking to Southwest.
