In the last year I have flown American Airlines religiously. My husband was stationed in Texas and then off to Iraq and then finally back. So my visits to him were done on American Airlines.
I never really noticed a problem with service or care until the pillow/blankets were missing from the small American Eagle planes. I am a scaredy cat and find that sleeping gets me through the flights. I of course didn't sleep this one time. I started to carry my own pillow but now I also needed to carry a blanket.
This seems really trivial until you realize that now that you are going to pay for your checked bags you need to streamline your carryon. Well my carryon is filled with the things I used to get as part of my ticket-pillow, blanket, food, water.....therefore, I basically have to check a bag. I asked the airline how this would affect carryon and they said that if you can carry it on it won't cost you. For overnighters this isn't a problem....week trips more is needed.
Now this is where you all are going to get upset but I am sorry. I started to notice on my flights that there were children in laps (no ticket) and people who did not fit in their seats basically taking up 1.5 to 2 by themselves. I have nothing against children or larger people until I have to sit with them on an airplane. I am being charged $15 for my first bag, $25 for my second yet there is a child in a lap who could have been charged for a seat and a large person who should have been forced to buy 1st class or 2 seats.
I know that gas is causing a crunch to a lot of things but when paying for a service, I kind of expect some kind of service even if it is just a small smile that is truly meant.
