As times have moved on and we have seen more and more interesting gadgets for the kitchen which make our lives easier, sometimes it is a reaction to get rid of the older items that we have which the new items are meant to replace. One of these items has been the Amco Swing A Way Portable Can Opener. I had one of these and then put it away when we got the no-cut can opener which takes the lids off of cans without creating sharp edges. Boy did I regret that choice. When my fancy can opener bit the dust, I realized that I needed something to open cans STAT! I ended up buying another one to replace my original Amco, and then found my original Amco Swing A Way and was amazed to see that both of them worked beautifully, despite the first one being many years old. Not only does it open cans quickly and efficiently, it has a jar lid lifter on it too, which is handy for opening jars of home canned foods. Ease of Cleaning This can opener is easy to clean, but if you get the ones with the white handles, they do stain. Durability My original old Amco Swing A Way Portable Can Opener is going just as strongly and is as sharp as the newer one that I have. This is a hard core long lasting kitchen must have for me! The handles are still in tact, the blade is still sharp, and it still works flawlessly. Design Despite it not being quite as nice as the kind that take lids off of cans without creating sharp edges, it works consistently and smoothly and efficiently without a problem on all types of cans. It is made heavy duty and has a nice jar lid lifter on it (bottle caps too)
