I advise that no one ever take this medication long-term. Like many others, ambien appeared to be a total miracle sleep aid until I started having to depend on it every night just to get some shut-eye. It makes my eyes extremely worn looking the next day not to mention the grogginess. I also experienced the night eating, 20 minute phone conversations I had no recollection of the next day, and overall severe memory problems. I told my doctor to stop my prescription are five months without realizing how addicted I truly was. I suffered severe panic attacks didn't sleep for three days until I finally broke down and went to the ER. I am now being slowly weaned off of it but it's a gruesome and slow process. I believe it is completely unacceptable that physicians basically lie to your face when they are supposed to be helping you, falsely leading you to believe these types of medications are not hazardous when in actuality they are slowly poisoning you. I know DREAM of my original sleeping habits, before ambien and feel as though I will never be back to normal. Please stay away from this horrendous drug.

Ambien Is Not For Everybody

4

I have read many reviews - several were written on this site - touting Ambien and I'm sure they were all authentic but my experience was completely different. I have had insomnia for at least twenty-five years. I have tried over the counter sleep aids, herbal and mineral remedies, accupuncture, hypnosis and other prescription medications. Nothing worked for any length of time. Finally my family physician prescribed Ambien. At first Ambien was a dream come true. I went to sleep quickly, slept through the night and woke up refreshed with no "drug hangover". What a relief! But then strange things began to happen. Friends would tell me that I had had long, rambling conversations with them. I didn't remember any of them. I would wake up and there would be food on the counter that I didn't remember preparing or eating. The last straw was waking up in my Chevy Blazer and had crashed into a tree in my driveway. I didn't have any memory of getting dressed, starting the Blazer, I had no idea where I was going and didn't remember crashing. Those events were only connected by the fact that I was taking Ambien. Eventually the Federal Government recieved so many complaints that they investigated Ambien. Even though Ambien now includes plenty of warnings with every prescription, I still feel that it's the most dangerous drugs I have ever taken.

Don't overlook the addictiveness

3

My friend, John told me that his doctor once give him Ambien Zolpidem tartrate after he worked too much and too tired to fall in sleep. It worked well and help him fall sleep. He also felt refreshed next morning. From then he would take one pill when he couldn't sleep well at night. With time he got used to take one pill before going to bed, which makes his wife worried a little bit and asked him to stop. The problem showed up when he tried to stop taking the pill and found it became even harder for him to fall sleep.  Sleeping pill can be addictive. I always suggest my friends to take a walk outdoors if they were inside too much and can't sleep well. Regular exercise or Yoga help much better for their overall sleep and behaviors. Don't overlook the side effects of drugs!

I was put on this medication a couple of years ago because I could not sleep. It worked great, however, I had a few nasty side effects and got really scared and stopped using it. I would have long memory lapses and would go on the computer and order things and have no knowledge of doing so. I would swear I had gone to bed with my husband and thought he was teasing me when he said I would not come to bed for several hours. When things started showing up that I had ordered and had no memory of doing so I got on the phone with my PCP and she took me off of them. It was a very bad experience for me. Now I just take Tylenol PM if I cannot sleep. be very careful when you use this product.

mr sandman, bring me some sleep

Ambien works very well. I'm authorized to take between 5 to 15 mg depending on how unsleepy I am. I rarely need 15 but when I do take that much it works just that much faster. There is no hangover in the morning. However, I am told that if I talk to someone on the phone 30 minutes after I take them it sounds like I'm drunk. Since I live along I did not realize that--the dog never mentioned it. So I just don't talk on the phone after I take my meds. I also take Melatonin at night which I think helps smooth things out naturally. When I have to take 15 mg a night very many nights in a row I start sleepwalking and don't remember what I've done. For instance I've cleaned the kitchen and also eaten things I did not recall eating. So I try to keep the dosage down to 10 at the most. I've been taking it for 3 years and have not built up a tolerance, needed no increase in dosage. For me, Ambien is my little sandman.

Wonderful nights sleep

5

This is a wonderful product.  I am taking the CR versoin.  The only problem I have is that my insurance company considers it nonformulary which means triple the copayment.  It is worth it though for a good nights sleep.  We are on a very tight budget but this makes it much easier to function through out the day.  I haven't had any side effects.  I have been on it for about 6 months and am not dependent on it-- I ran out of it for a couple of weeks and didn't have problems (I get to sleep fine, I don't stay asleep).

I would only sleep for three or four hours, then be up all night

1

I was given this medicine to help my insomnia.  I took one dose of it and decided it wasn't for me.  I was able to sleep after taking it for about three or four hours, then woke up feeling like I had taken speed or something.  I wasn't able to get back to sleep for anything, and had to be at work in the morning.  Needless to say, I ended up going to work on very little sleep!  I talked with my doctor and we tried a different medicine that worked much better for me.

Ambien IS habit-forming

2

Ambien may work so fast that you might fall asleep in inappropriate places.  You may also experience drug-induced activities, with amnesia of the activity.  You may injure yourself or someone else.  And, no matter what the manufacturer states, sleep aids ARE habit-forming.  They are appropriate for only very limited and cautious use.

i really love ambien

5

I really like ambien cr..  I've tried all the prescription sleep drugs and this is the best.  There is no weird aftertaste like lunesta.  The only problem is the cost and the fact that my insurance company will no longer cover it. I fall asleep quickly and stay asleep all night, whci is wonderful.
