I became addicted to them

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

My doctor prescribed these to help me sleep. I was on the minimum dosage. I got addicted to them after about a month. They only helped me sleep for about 4 hours then I would wake up and couldn't go back to sleep. Sometimes I felt groggy the next day. I got to the point where I had to have these to go to sleep at all. They give you this funny high feeling that makes you sleepy. It's so easy to get addicted to these. I quit taking them because I finally realized I was addicted. It was hard. I doubt I'll ever want to take these again because I don't want to get hooked on them again. Over the counter stuff is what I take now or I just stay up super late til I can't stay up anymore.

Ambien - Will get you to sleep, may get you others things, also

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

So, I started taking Ambien because I had a surgery and the pain was keeping me awake for a long period of time before and after the procedure. I will say the good thing about Ambien is that it gets you to sleep quickly. The negative thing about Ambien is that until you adjust to it, you will probably do things you will not remember, have conversations you will wish you hadn't, or be places you don't recall. I can't tell you how many times I had conversations over the phone that I don't even remember because the phone rang after I took my Ambient for the night. I will say this about the medication, pay attention to how your body reacts to it! Some people see things, or hear things, that aren't really there after they take the medication. I recommend taking this medication only after you are already in bed for the night, and there is no chance you will be talking to others that evening. It will make you forget, so use with caution! Sleep well. :)

ambien gave me a sound nights sleep

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

i have many medical problems. all of them having to do with bones and joints, along with fibromyalgia. there is alot of pain involved and there are times that i just can't get comfortable enough to sleep. the doctor prescribed a few different sleep medications but the effects were awful. i couldn't wake up, i felt groggy the next day, or felt "hung over" the next day. i hated the feelings it gave me. the doctor finally decided to try ambien and i had to look no further for the best sleep aid i could possibly find. i fell asleep quickly, usually within 30 minutes, and i slept soundly for a full night. when i woke up i felt refreshed with no residual side effects. there has been no habit forming side effects. i only take it when needed. finally a good nights sleep!

Ambien has brought back restful nights!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I have been battling with insomnia and hypomania since I was a child.  When you don't sleep, it worsens your depression, diminishes you capacity to think, digest food, and makes the cycle of bipolar disorder or cyclothymic disorder even worse.  I was prescribed all of these awful mood stabalizers that make you nasty, mean, and honery in many cases.  I have heard the same from a few others I know in my situation.  I don't truly get full blown manias, so if I can get slowed down enough to the point where I get to sleep and stay asleep, I am golden.  I am feeling so much better!  I definitely suggest it.  I took Lunesta for a few years, and it just wasn't the ...

I could have ended up with a DUI. Thanks Ambien.

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I have a horrible time sleeping, so I took Ambien. I started to mysteriously gain weight. It was because I was "sleep eating." Not a few cookies or some candy. How about an entire rotisserie chicken and a cherry pie? I was eating SO much food! I was eating more than I even thought could fit in my stomach. How was I not vomiting? I didn't figure it out until I woke up with pie all over my night shirt. I had just assumed the other residents of the house were eating the food. I had total amnesia for the event. I had conversations and wrote emails while sleeping. No memory.

Then one night I was jarred awake by my frantic husband. "You drove to the grocery store! You went shopping! I couldn't fi...

Don't overlook the addictiveness

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

My friend, John told me that his doctor once give him Ambien Zolpidem tartrate after he worked too much and too tired to fall in sleep. It worked well and help him fall sleep. He also felt refreshed next morning. From then he would take one pill when he couldn't sleep well at night. With time he got used to take one pill before going to bed, which makes his wife worried a little bit and asked him to stop. The problem showed up when he tried to stop taking the pill and found it became even harder for him to fall sleep.  Sleeping pill can be addictive. I always suggest my friends to take a walk outdoors if they were inside too much and can't sleep well. Regular exercise or Yoga help much better for their overall sleep and behaviors. Don't overlook the side effects of drugs!

With Zolpidem Tartrate effectiveness depends on manufacturer.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I have taken brand name Ambien. Works great but my copay is way to high. I then went to a generic zolpidem tartrate and it worked almost as well. (Oblong football shape). However, I have chased this particular generic through 4 pharmacies and always end up getting switched to a white round generic which is absolutely ineffective. The pharmacies tell me that is the generic that their wholesale suppliers are going to. I have reported this to the FDA. I have complained to all four pharmacies but I guess you get what you pay for as they all now want to fill my prescription with the white round generic. I will ask my Dr to switch me to an alternative as I cannot get the "good" generic and cannot afford the real thing.

dangerous

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

I was put on this medication a couple of years ago because I could not sleep. It worked great, however, I had a few nasty side effects and got really scared and stopped using it. I would have long memory lapses and would go on the computer and order things and have no knowledge of doing so. I would swear I had gone to bed with my husband and thought he was teasing me when he said I would not come to bed for several hours. When things started showing up that I had ordered and had no memory of doing so I got on the phone with my PCP and she took me off of them. It was a very bad experience for me. Now I just take Tylenol PM if I cannot sleep. be very careful when you use this product.

dangerous!!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

My husband takes this as a sleeping pill and so far we have seen more reasons to STAY AWAY from it than to USE it.  First, the 5mg or 10 mg did not make a difference in sleeping.  Now, the 15mg dose is giving nasty side effects.  My husband is essentially functioning through the night with NO MEMORY OF IT!  He cooks, holds conversations, etc as if he were awake.  He calls people and starts nasty fights for no reason.  More than once I have caught him trying to take MORE PILLS because he thinks he has no idea what he is doing and has no memory of the events in the morning.  Luckily he does not live alone- how many people are dying from accidental overdoses?!?!

Ambien Is Not For Everybody

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I have read many reviews - several were written on this site - touting Ambien and I'm sure they were all authentic but my experience was completely different.

I have had insomnia for at least twenty-five years. I have tried over the counter sleep aids, herbal and mineral remedies, accupuncture, hypnosis and other prescription medications. Nothing worked for any length of time. Finally my family physician prescribed Ambien.

At first Ambien was a dream come true. I went to sleep quickly, slept through the night and woke up refreshed with no "drug hangover". What a relief!

But then strange things began to happen. Friends would tell me that I had had long, rambling conv...

A godsend if you're a total insomniac.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I've never slept well my entire life.  A propensity to night terrors, sleepwalking, and general restless combined with some painful chronic health conditions makes it hard to fall asleep and hard to stay asleep.  I was desperate until I was prescribed Ambien.  It was quite a regular thing for me to be up for three days at a time.

Ambien is designed to be a sleeping pill by operating as a hypnotic on your system.  I don't understand all the mechanics of it, but essentially it can relax your body and mind to help you sleep.  But if you read any news, you've probably read about the strange side effects.  It causes some pretty severe memory fog or complete amnesia....

Ambien - The Most Widely Prescribed Sleep Med in the U.S.A.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

IMPORTANT: *Nothing in this review shoud be construed as professional medical advice.*

The generic equivalent of Ambien (zolpidem tartrate) is currently the most widely prescribed sleep medication in the United States. Ambien is also available as a controlled release product (Ambien CR), although this version is not yet available generically. Zolpidem is a prescription-only drug in the United States, and is a controlled substance under DEA Schedule IV (not the most stringent schedule; up to five refills are permitted under federal law, and oral prescription is permitted subject to state regulation to the contrary).

Ambien came into the market circa 1990. It was the first of a ne...

Ambien caused severe mental issues

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

My mom was put on Ambien and in the weeks and months that followed, she began having severe mental issues. She would ramble on about conspiracies by people to kill her. Nothing like this had ever happened before with her. I would have conversations with her over the phone and her sentences wouldn't make any since. She seemed to be completely out of her mind.

Our family took her to the hospital for extended visits. I spoke with her over the phone during a hospital visit and she whispered to me to get her out because the nurses were trying to kill her. We also tried a couple of psychiatrists and nothing seemed to help. We reached a point at which we discussed needing to ha...

mr sandman, bring me some sleep

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Ambien works very well. I'm authorized to take between 5 to 15 mg depending on how unsleepy I am. I rarely need 15 but when I do take that much it works just that much faster. There is no hangover in the morning. However, I am told that if I talk to someone on the phone 30 minutes after I take them it sounds like I'm drunk. Since I live along I did not realize that--the dog never mentioned it. So I just don't talk on the phone after I take my meds. I also take Melatonin at night which I think helps smooth things out naturally. When I have to take 15 mg a night very many nights in a row I start sleepwalking and don't remember what I've done. For instance I've cleaned the kitchen and also eaten things I did not recall eating. So I try to keep the dosage down to 10 at the most. I've been taking it for 3 years and have not built up a tolerance, needed no increase in dosage. For me, Ambien is my little sandman.

Ambien didn't work for me

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

After working the night shift at work for a year, my insomnia began taking a toll on my life. I could only sleep for about two hours a night, if that. Not only could I not fall asleep, I had trouble staying asleep as well. I tried every over the counter sleep medicine from Unisom and Tylenol p.m., to herbal remedies, and everything inbetween. Finally, I went to my doctor. She prescribed me 10 mg Ambien and basically talked it up and made it seem like a miracle cure for insomnia. I was expecting great things from Ambien, and it did help me fall asleep easier, but it definitely didn't help to keep me asleep. I still woke up every few hours, so I was very disappointed. I experienced a lot of si...
