I've never slept well my entire life. A propensity to night terrors, sleepwalking, and general restless combined with some painful chronic health conditions makes it hard to fall asleep and hard to stay asleep. I was desperate until I was prescribed Ambien. It was quite a regular thing for me to be up for three days at a time.
Ambien is designed to be a sleeping pill by operating as a hypnotic on your system. I don't understand all the mechanics of it, but essentially it can relax your body and mind to help you sleep. But if you read any news, you've probably read about the strange side effects. It causes some pretty severe memory fog or complete amnesia. There's a good chance you won't remember anything after it kicks in until you've slept it off. And I personally have an occasional night where it almost seems to make me more hyper and awake than sleepy.
This is definitely one to consult your doctor about. But if you've tried everything else it may be the solution for you. The brand name is expensive, but generics are available. There is also a different version, Ambien CR, which has two medicines in it.
