Perhaps it's almost a cliche to say this now, but ever since I started using computers in the late 1980s, I've known that all the sci-fi stuff about books, magazines and newspapers going from paper to electronic form  seen in Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey would eventually come to pass.

The Amazon Kindle is a revolutionary device.  I have long been a believer that eventually books would go digital.  I even bought a Rocket Book years ago. But the Amazon Kindle is different, and better and is a sign of a changing world.

Much has been written about the Kindle, so rather the write an entire review, I will just let you know what I like about it:

1) The lightweight form factor is very holdable.

2) The screen is clear, crisp and quite readable.  It is not as good as a laptop but might even be better for your eyes over long periods of time.

I love my kindle 2 and only wish I had more time to read books on it.  The photo and text clarity is amazing, and the photo zoom feature is awesome.  I love the free books that always come available from Amazon.  I also love that I can email and download my own documents for free (I use this feature a lot).  Anything to save money helps considering the hefty price tag on the kindle.  The kindle is not for people attached to the sentimental feeling of turning a paper page.  It is for someone who is never home, needs a lot of books, and likes technology.  The kindle has so many features I...

The Kindle is a great device, especially if you travel. Don't have to carry books, newspapers, magazines, even documents...all can just go on your kindle. The electronic ink technology is great...doesn't wash out in the sun. The big difference between the kindle and the roval Sony is the wireless capabilities built into the kindle. If you don't travel much, this feature might not be that important to you, but being able to download anew book from most anywhere is really valuable to me.

For months after Amazon released the Kindle, I haunted the site endlessly, dreaming of having one for my very own. Having been an avid reader since childhood, the idea of carrying a stack of books in a small device was enticing indeed.

I purchased the Amazon Kindle for my mother for her birthday. She has a hard time reading pocketbooks because of the text size. Despite using reading glasses, she often gets a headache. I thought the Kindle, with its adjustable font size would allow her to read for pleasure again.

The Amazon Kindel is one of my very favorite possessions.

I am always looking for ways to streamline my carry on items for travel for both work and pleasure. I am the type of person who dreads being stuck somewhere without a good book to read. As a result in my PKD (Pre Kindel Days) I would often travel with 4 of 5 books for a 2 day business trip. As a natural speed reader, and with airline travel in the state that it is in I regularly read all of my books and had to purchase more.

Now I don't have that worry, no matter where I am I can download more books to read. I have only been in one location...

I'm a new Kindle 2 owner and I did not own a Kindle 1. I was very interested in the original Kindle, but had decided to wait for improvements based on customer feedback after it was released, especially the accidental page turning issue. Since it looked like they made the improvements I was waiting for (one of the others was a bit more free space on the case to hold it) I took the plunge and got the new one.

I thought I'd start with listing my reasons for getting the Kindle, since I think that can sometimes help others who are sitting on the fence to decide if it's for them or not.

I'm a great believer in the e-book concept; having been reading e-books since the Apple Newton (and down through various Palms, Sony Reader PRS505, and Kindle 1). On the one hand I love my Kindle 1... I use it everyday, I subscribe to my favorite newspaper, I mark up my books with annotations, highlights and bookmarks. 

On the other hand my Kindle 1 annoys me... unintended page changes, the awkward way I sometimes have to hold it to keep from hitting buttons, the sometimes slow page refresh, and the screen freezes that now has me traveling with a paper clip lest I need to do a reset while commuting on the train. 

I've had the Kindle 2 in my hands for almost a day and have carried it on one commute. What follows is my "first impressions" review of the Kindle...

I bought my 1st generation Kindle back in August of last year.  I've had it almost a year and it goes EVERYWHERE with me.  I am definately a bibliophile.  I read ALL the time.  I read on my breaks, when waiting at the doctors office, etc.  I easily read 4-8 books a week.  I love the kindle.  I can carry about 1500 books on it for the weight of one book.  Anyone who reads a lot understands the value of that.  Books get heavy quickly.

I haven't upgraded to the Kindle 2 or the Kindle DX simply because: (1) my kindle still works beautifully, and (2) I like the fact that the 1st generation...

This is a review of the Amazon Kindle 2. I've only had it for a couple months, but oh, man is it great. Apparently it has this amazing wireless capability where you can use Wikipedia and shop at the Amazon store and have newspaper subscriptions beamed wirelessly into it every morning. I haven't even used this feature because I'm visiting Canada at the moment so it's not available (they won't even ship it to Canada, which is stupid and cost me lots of extra money, but their handling of that whole issue is a customer service complaint so I won't get into it).

I'm an avid reader, but was a hesitant e-reader.  As my S.O. says, "I like the feel of paper."  I can't argue with that; however, I can read my Kindle and eat at the same time without getting the "pages" greasy or having to figure out how to eat with one hand and read with the other.  It is easy to see, the type size is adjustable if you have difficulty reading a smaller type size, and you can upload your MP3 tunes to use as background music at the same time you read!  There are tons of FREE books you can download (some are only available for a limited time, so if you see something you like,...
