Amazon - Kindle —

Backstory:
Both
of my parents own a Kindle.  They do not share; they each had to have one.  (Thank you, Oprah.)  They were part of the mad rush to order a Kindle at a $50 discount via Oprah's Holiday show, I believe.  You know, the mad rush that had Amazon.com out of Kindles for quite awhile.

My mother is NOT a technophile.  In fact, too much technology freaks her out.  She has to have something easy to operate, something that loads quickly (never ask my mother to come look at something on the web if you don't already have the site loaded up :D), and something that feels comfortable for her.

She is a bibliophile!

She loves the Kindle.

Present:
I have been drooling over the Kindle since my parents got theirs, and before that of course.  In fact when my mother mentioned Kindle, I was a) flabbergasted and b) very excited.  And shocked.

Well, our Tax Return was healthy this year and I decided to splurge!  And boy am I glad I did.

I love:
  • How easy it is to add books to the Kindle.  You can do it from the Kindle or from your Amazon.com account - in seconds!  If you pick out the book online it sends it right to your Kindle automatically.
  • How readable it is - one of my main complaints about "real books" is having to hold them open, esp. if they are a cheap paperback.  Cheap paperbacks spring shut nearly automatically.  I frequently find myself doing more than one thing while I'm reading, and with "real books" I am always losing my place, or spilling something on the pages because I'm trying to hold the book flat and eating.  With the Kindle, I don't have to even touch the book and there it is.  Also on readability - you can readjust the text size!  Can't do THAT with a paper book.
  • Tons of storage
  • Keeps your place - in all your books you're currently reading!
  • Huge list of free books
I can't really think of any complaints - this tool for readers is pretty awesome.

I'm considering one for myself since I read a lot and you lose books easy. It was real good to come on here and read the reviews from the ones who have one. thanks for your input.

It's really fun to see people using them out and about; I brought it to church (with the Bible on it, of course) on Sunday and people could not stop talking to me about it. LOL

What an amazing product. You're the first person I've communicated with who has one. You know, I never thought about the difficulty keeping pages open in paperbacks. Until Kindle, that was just the way it was. Excellent review!

how much fun. .. unfortunately I am one of those readers who love the feel of paper in my hand. reading online (or like this) has always been tough for me but I love portable.
