Amazon - Kindle —

This is my second Kindle. I bought the first one last year and fell in love with it. I admit that I am a techno-loving geeky woman. Designer purses don't do it for me - but gadgets get me going. The greatest thing about this e-book reader is that it has a wireless connection which you can turn on and off. It is linked to Amazon. You can download an unlimited amount of samples of books - usually the first few chapters. When you finish the sample and you decide you want to read the entire book, just turn on the wireless, click Buy It and wait about 30 seconds for the book to appear on your Kindle book list. Turn off the wireless and start enjoying your book. If you decide you don't want to read the book you can just delete the sample. Last year I was on the beach in Maui on vacation. I had just finished a book and started to read a sample of another. I thought "well, there's no way that I'm going to get a wireless connection here on this remote beach on Maui, but I'll try it." I turned on the wireless and poof - it worked. It was at that moment that I knew I would never buy a paper book again and I was hooked.

Version 2 brings a few nice improvements - the design is better thought out - buttons on the original one were too sensitive and it was too easy to accidentally "turn the page" when you were holding it. Version 2 has better button placement, it is thinner and lighter. They added greater capacity, but took away the card reader - but I didn't use that anyway. If you read a book and then delete it from the Kindle, you can always re-download it from your Amazon account any time you want to re-read it. You do need a book light to read in the dark (one of my favorite things to do before I go to sleep!) Yes I know it's a bit expensive, but most of the books at $9.99 or less. I do still go into bookstores to browse, but if I see a book I might want to read, I write it down to get from Amazon - or just download it right there! Sorry, Barnes & Noble.

In response to GrandmawsOpinion's comment from Apr 1, 2009 at 3:13PM:

There is a fonts button on the Kindle. It has 4-5 font size settings on it. I switch between 2 fonts - one for when it is daylight (smaller) and a larger one for when I'm reading under the covers at night! I don't think you can change the font family, however, just the size.

Great review! As a published author I'm interested in purchasing a Kindle. I saw that a second version is now available and thought about getting it. I love gadgets and love to read! Does Kindle give you the option of enlarging and changing fonts?
