Amazing Grace —

My husband gave me a DVD of this movie as a Christmas gift because the night we went to the theater to view it, they were doing some screen repairs and we were unable to see it then.  This was an enjoyable movie to me as there seems to be such a lack of "clean" movies to watch nowdays.  This is based on the true story of the many-years struggle of William Wilberforce to abolish British slavery.  His minister was John Newton who penned the famous hymn, Amazing Grace.  Newton was haunted with his own "ghosts" of the slaves he traded before finding the amazing grace of Jesus Who "saved a wretch like" him.  While watching this, I could see the correlation of how some individuals today view gambling, porn and other such establishments as merely "jobs" to help the economy, rather than the "poison" it actually creates within our communities.  Wilberforce faced opposition to abolishing slavery because of the impact on the slave traders income.  The inhumane treatment and sometimes death of the slaves during their journeys on ships and afterwards was immaterial to the tunnel-visioned opposers.  With God's help and Wilberforce's persistence, victory finally came.
