Alvin and the Chipmunks Review Summary

Same Old Alvin! Alvin and the Chipmunks is a great movie for the family, and has you remembering back to when you used to watch the cartoon series as a kid. For this live action film version of Alvin and the Chipmunks, the chipmunks stayed animated, while the humans became live people. Many Viewpoints moviegoers felt Dave (Jason Lee of My Name Is Earl is even better live than as a cartoon. A few reviewers take Alvin and the Chipmunks to task for a some harsh language and adult situations, while others feel much of that goes right over youngsters' heads. Leaving the theatre, be prepared to be humming the tunes and having your kids yelling, "Allll-viiiin!"

My husband and I both were anxiously awaiting the DVD release of Alvin and the Chipmonks. We both grew up watching the cartoons and loved them, so this movie was sure to bring back lots of old memories. It was very entertaining but for a movie of a children's theme, it was a bit too much. We dont watch much television in my house, so when my kids have a chance to sit in front of the TV or go to the movie theater, they are so thrilled!

Over the holiday break, I took my son to go see Alvin and the Chipmunks-- mommy and son time. It was a very cute movie that had me laughing and smiling (and...

I was looking forward to seeing Alvin and the Chipmunks with my kids, introducing them to something I remember from my own childhood. Hearing their Christmas tune is just part of the holidays. What I found, though, bringing my daughter to see the film opening weekend was that while it was the same old chipmunks for the most part and same old part of Dave, they really weren't that entertaining for adults.

I'm not sure why, but we expect everything to get better with age, like cheese and wine, but chipmunks don't age at all, and just stay the same precocious youngsters. Dave doesn't seem to change...

Alvin & The Chipmunks

My kids, like many across America, couldn't wait for the Alvin & The Chipmunks movie to open in theaters.  The commercials alone were very entertaining.

The Alvin & The Chipmunks movie is a very family friendly movie, based on the cartoon series from the 80's.  I was worried it would be annoying listening to the chipmunk voices but thankfully, they aren't as high-pitched as I remember them to be from the cartoon.  The chipmunks are so adorable and it's very hard to tell that there is  computer animation in the movie.  It seemed SO real.

So real, in fact, my daughter...

My sister let us borrow her copy of Alvin & the Chipmunks because I was skeptical, but still wanted to see the movie, and we were pleased. I was a huge fan of the chipmunks when I was little, and watched the cartoons as often as I could, and I felt they stayed pretty true to the cartoons that I remember. I admit, when I saw the commercials for the movie, I did think the cgi chipmunks were a little creepy, but after actually watching the movie, changed my mind, they are cute. There is lots of humor, and Jason Lee does a great job as Dave, and David Cross makes a good "bad" guy. Some of the songs... review »

I always loved Alvin and the Chipmunks and even had multiple records of them growing up... yes I said Records :)  Yet I forgot about the movie until it was on HBO!  After watching Alvin and the Chipmunk the movie, I can say it was cute and I like how they modernized it.  I'm not sure how much it fits with the original chipmunks stories, but it still works for me!

Dave is a music writer who isn't really selling any music.  He's been trying hard but getting rejected by his "friend" Ian.  Alvin, Simon and Theodore are three chipmunks who live in the forest, until their tree gets chopped down...

I thought the commercials for this looked kind of hoakey, but it turned out to be one of the better kid's movies I've seen in awhile.  Even my eleven year old liked this one!   If you didn't get to the theatre to see this, it is definately worth renting.  The chipmunks are cute, the story is fun and it's not too long.

Watching this movie makes me think back to my childhood,  I loved the cartoons then and loved this movie even now almost twenty years later. I can honestly say that my children loved this movie but I think I loved it a little more.  I was thrilled to see that they have  not even changed the story line or the characters in the movie.  I think I was five or six when I watched my first episode of Alvin and the chipmunks.  My kids thought I was lieing to them when I told them when the chipmunks came out until I showed them some old episodes I kept on tape.  I loved the idea of having a family... review »

We don't go to the movies often, but when my 5yo son asked Santa for a chipmunk, I knew this would be the movie we would enjoy (we also have a 3yo). They have been falling over laughing from the commercials, so they already had the general idea. We got to the theatre a bit late, so we sat down JUST as the first scene started. From then on, my boys were glued to the screen. They had a blast!
As a mother, I am concerned about the types of entertainment they see. I like when the stories have a moral, the characters learn something, and especially when the idea of "family" is reinforced. I also liked...

Alvin!!! is a great movie for the entire family. I am not sure who enjoyed this movie more, me a 29 year old male or my niece 11 years old. I am a big fan of the original cartoon while she had never heard of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

This movie kept us laughing throughout the entire movie. The character of Dave is even better as a real life person then he was as a cartoon character which made the movie have more human emotions. You could really relate to Dave with every aspect of his life.

For the stars of the movie, the chipmunks were amazing. They were extremely life like, incredibly funny, and...

When I heard they were making Alvin into a movie, I was skeptical.  I grew up watching the cartoon and looked forward to Saturday mornings.  I went and saw this at the theatre and WOW was I amazed at how good of a job the film makers did making this one.  It has a cute story and does not have violence.  It is nice these days to see a movie without violence.  This movie can also teach life lessons to be grateful for what you have and be careful of what you wish for.  Great film.

I thought this was a great movie for the family.  Did have some adult oriented jokes (meaning the adults in the audience got a little chuckle that blew over the kids heads!).  Kept my 3 1/2 yr old daughters attention through the entire movie.  She even talked about it for days after.

This film was great. My 2 1/2 year old sat through the whole movie which is a miracle in itself. There was some good humor, and I was not bored as an adult either. I happen to be a fan of "My name is Earl" T.V. show, and he was funny in a family friendly way. Great show.

Alvin and the Chipmunks are back! After several decades of hiding, the chipmunks made a comeback with a movie including real people. I was concerned about how well the movie would do with the way kids are these days. We used to love Alvin and the Chipmunks when we were little. In fact, my sisters and I used to pretend we were them (you guess which one I was!) when we were kids. we all resembled one or the other pretty closely and we liked to sing together. Now kids are used to seeing more entertainment, more violence, wilder plots and more mature content. I wondered if Alvin and the Chipmunks
