My sister let us borrow her copy of Alvin & the Chipmunks because I was skeptical, but still wanted to see the movie, and we were pleased. I was a huge fan of the chipmunks when I was little, and watched the cartoons as often as I could, and I felt they stayed pretty true to the cartoons that I remember. I admit, when I saw the commercials for the movie, I did think the cgi chipmunks were a little creepy, but after actually watching the movie, changed my mind, they are cute. There is lots of humor, and Jason Lee does a great job as Dave, and David Cross makes a good "bad" guy. Some of the songs are just too cute, like when Alvin, Simon, and Theodore sing Funky Town. And, they sing the Christmas Song, can't have a Chipmunk movie without that one! I think I loved the nostalgia this movie brought for me. There are a few things in it that were almost crossing the line, but it was mostly clean.

If you can tolerate kid movies, this one is a cute one. My daughter loved the chipmunk voices and would watch for a minute or two when they were singing, and my 4 year old nephew can watch it over and over. For adults, it is worth watching once or twice. If you don't have kids around, I would suggest renting it, but with kids, buy it! Now, where is the Chipette movie?
