Now that I'm getting older, my face isn't as excessively oily as it has been for most of my life. I recently noticed that the medicated facial cleansers that I've used for years with no problem are now beginning to cause my skin to sting a little. It seems that my skin no longer requires the heavy-duty, oil-absorbing, acne-fighting ingredients that used to be part of my daily routine. I've settled on a gentler skin care program that works for my oily-to-normal skin without causing skin irritation. The foundation to my new regimen is a good, soap-free face wash called Alpha Hydrox Face Wash - White Basic Skin Care.

I had been looking for an effective facial cleanser ever since I read a dermatological report stating that many popular cleansers contain ingredients that are gimmicky at best, and potentially irritating at worst. Ingredients like peppermint, menthol, and salicylic acid are usually not found in a high enough concentration in cleansers to be effective. What you do get is a gentle, lathering cleanser that cleans thoroughly and rinses completely. The first time I used the Face Wash I used a little warm water to work up a soft lather. I was wearing makeup, and the cleanser did a great job washing off foundation, eye shadow, and lipstick without any tugging or pulling. It got off most of the mascara, and I just swiped a cotton ball of makeup remover across my eyes to take care of the rest.

After cleansing, my skin felt fresh and clean. I didn't have the irritating tingle that harsher cleansers leave behind, but I also didn't have any feeling of residue. My skin felt completely normal; not oily, not stripped, and not filmy. I've noticed that my skin doesn't sting when I follow up with my toner and AHA night treatment. And the best part is that I wake up with clear skin.
