Quick View: I use SPF 30 when I am out in the sun for long periods of time or when I am out there at peak times. I like SPF 15 as an all around protectant in the later hours when I usually walk my dog or on cloudy days when I am in and out. This sunscreen is great as are ALL Alpha Hydrox products. The whole line is now a part of daily skin care regiment.

About Alpha Hydrox Daily Sunscreen, SPF 15 UVA, UVB

This sunscreen comes in a 4 ounce tube. It is white and silky and goes on without any color on the skin. It doesn't feel oily at all and absorbs quickly. The active ingredients are as follows: Octinoxate (7.5%) (Sunscreen), Oxybenzone (3%) (Sunscreen), Octisalate (3%) (Sunscreen).

This sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays which many don't. Many protect just against UVA rays leaving our skin unprotected against UVB rays which can be more damaging!

I apply this sunscreen before I apply make up as a primer and I apply it alone when I am not wearing make up. I have not burned at all on my face. I use it liberally on my chest, arms, and legs as well and am slightly tan but have not gotten any redness or burn even when the sun was out in full force. SPF 15 is not a great amount of protection so this should not be used if you're going to the beach on a sunny day and sitting in the sun for hours. This is best for daily summer and winter use or for later in the day. I walked my dog at about 5 p.m. last month and came in to find I had a sunburn on my face, shoulders and chest! I thought the sun's rays were weak at the point. I learned my lesson. Now, I use Alpha Hydrox Daily Sunscreen, SPF 15 UVA, UVB when we take a walk or when I go out later in the day because that sun can still do a number on my skin even though it seems to be harmless.

This sunscreen never caused me any breakouts, clogged pores, or irritation. It works and I love it. The tube goes where I go and I use it whenever I think the sun may be tricking me. I will use it in the winter as well. It makes a great makeup primer so I can protect my skin and prime it in one step. It's also wonderful on the hands every day. We don't even realize that our hands get zapped by the sun every time we step outside. This is a great way to keep hands looking younger and keep them from sun damage.

My Viewpoint

This sunscreen is great for what it is. It's not a sunblock and it isn't made to protect your skin if you're roasting in the peak hours of the sun. It's a great daily sunscreen that adds moisture and has no fragrance. It's good for later afternoons and for cloudy days as well as wintry days. It's a drugstore product so it's easy to find and only costs about $7.00. A little goes a long way. My skin actually looks better when I wear than when I don't! 5 stars. Remember, this should not replace your higher SPF sunscreen when you are in direct sunlight for a length of time.

People rarely think they can die of skin cancer or even GET it. It is becoming more prevalent these days. I don't like to use sunscreen but I do because I sure don't want to battle something totally preventable!

My mom was a sun worshipper when she was young, then she preached to us when we turned into sun worshippers and now I preach to my young ones to put on sunscreen! I had an aunt die a few years ago (in her early 40's) skin cancer. It's scary...

I know. I think we are both lucky. We used to be out there all the time and we really haven't gotten too much damage like some people. (Aunt Fran. HAHAHA)

Me too. I used to literally bake in the sun and now I am very careful. I sure miss that deep tan I used to have though.

I wish I would have worried about the sun years ago. Who knew it could cause so much damage!

Good info. here Patty. I am so glad to see many VP members focusing on sun protection. Thanks.

I use SPF 30 when I am out in the sun. I am olive skinned but pale. A weird combo. But I very rarely burn unless I am out in the peak hours totally unprotected and even then, it's just a minor burn that quickly tans. I used to get freckles too before I used any sunscreen. For years, I would lay out in the sun with baby oil or nothing at all on my skin. Then I freckled a little. I miss the tan but I'm scared of the sun damage and skin cancer possibilities.

I get confused too! There are new sunscreens out with different ingredients than the usual but I can't keep up with what's best. The way I see it, if I don't burn, it works. I used to bake in the sun using baby oil so any sunscreen I use that allows me to be in the sun without baking and burning is good enough for me. I don't spend hours in the sun so I don't really need the top of the line stuff....I hope!

LisaCarey wrote on Jul 16, 2008 at 7:27PM

The small size is good, but I am so fair, I actually use the children's 50 SPF spray on everyday and another one for my face. . . or not only do I burn but horror... I freckle!

JovialCougar wrote on Jul 16, 2008 at 6:10PM

I'm so confused about sunscreens. I use one that says 'Broad Spectrum Protection'' by Banana Boat... but then recently read a news article saying that brand is not very good. The article recommended all these weird, expensive kinds of sunscreen that I never heard of!
