I have been on a quest to find the perfect foundation.  I can never seem to find the right shade and when I find one similar to my skintone, the foundation is either too powdery looking or wears off too soon.  I was browsing through Rite-Aid one day and came across Almay Smart Shade Makeup.  It was a bit pricey at $I3.99 for 1 Fl Oz, but if it did what is claimed, then I figured that it was worth it.  I was intrigued and hopeful that maybe this would finally be the foundation I had been looking for.  Unfortunately, my quest continues.

About this makeup...

Almay claims that this makeup takes the guesswork out of finding the right shade by magically transforming into your ideal shade.  This makeup is infused with soothing aloe, is hypoallergenic, and won't clog pores. SPF 15.

What I think about it...

I purchased the light/medium shade because the package stated that this shade worked best if you wear neutral, beige, sand, or warm foundation.  I normally wear beige so I figured this would be perfect for me.  When I unscrewed the cap of the plastic tube and squeezed some makeup out, I was surprised to see that the foundation was white with little specks of beige color.  The consistency was thinner than I expected so the makeup came out quite fast.  I began to apply it to my face and it was somewhat strange to not be able to actually see the color.  It went on white and then disappeared sort of like a moisturizer.  It spread easily and absorbed quickly but when the application was complete, my face looked too light and there was somewhat of a powdery look.  The coverage is very light and didn't do a very good job of covering flaws.  I might have had better luck if I went with the medium/dark shade although that is not what I consider my skin to be.

My Final Viewpoint...

Almay Smart Shade Makeup is really not much more than an average product.  It really didn't live up to all the hype and I don't think this makeup is one that I would buy again.  Personally, it just was not enough coverage for me.  I recommend this makeup to those who like tinted moisturizers or who are looking for light coverage.  Just be aware of the shade recommendations on the package.  You may want to go one shade darker.  I am giving this makeup a 3 star rating.

Their blush is the same way to me too- it is fine for maybe tweens to wear, but not women that like makeup- great review!

I was dying to try this, but I'm glad I didn't waste my money after reading your take on it. I have found the perfect mascara, but alas, my quest for the perfect foundation continues...

Thank you! I was a bit disappointed I have to admit. It is very much like a tinted moisturizer.

Comparing this product to a tinted moisturizer is exactly correct! Great review, I wish I had read it before I purchased this for myself!

Unfortunately, they only have three shades. The darkest is the medium which is probably not very dark since the light/medium was too light for me.

If light/medium was too light for you, my guess is that they probably don't have deeper shades for women of color. Oh well, at least I won't be disappointed. LOL

I agree, I keep trying to find that smooth flawless beautiful blended coverage that looks natural that they SAY they produce, I keep getting just ok.

It amazes me how companies can get away with their "claims." Who are they testing this stuff on? I'd love to be a makeup tester!

I do! I have it, of course. It's silly. It's like a mood ring for your lips. lol.

What, no Lucky Charms? They're Magically Delicious! ;)

This sounds intriguing! Remember the lipstick that used to change colors with the emotions of the person wearing it! I never tried it.

It is supposed to "magically" transform into the right shade for your face. I think from now on, I will stay away from anything that has the word MAGIC on it. =)

white with specks just doesn't sound like it would do the trick but I am just a guy so how would I know. ;)
