Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara —

I have never used an Almay make-up product before, and I had a coupon for $1.00 off any Almay item, so the mascara junkie that I am bought the Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara.  I should have known that this mascara would be nothing fancy because of the packaging alone.  It comes in a plain, easy to miss, black and white package - not a bright, eye-catching, colorful tube like other brands.

Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara claims to:

  • Give you 100% thicker lashes
  • Condition lashes with aloe and vitamin B5
  • No smudging or flakes

I almost gave this mascara 2 stars because of how it feels when you are applying it.  You know how mascara feels when it is old and it's time to throw it away?  Well that is how Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara feels.  It doesn't go on smoothly and the texture of it doesn't allow you to apply more than one coat, nicely.

Your lashes will get a little darker and longer, but they do not get separated or volumized.  Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara didn't give me the dramatic look that I want with a mascara.  This would be good for someone who likes more natural looking lashes.  I do have to say that I like how it leaves your lashes soft.  Unlike most mascaras, your lashes will not get hard and brittle, they will become soft, flexible and flake-free.

The Scoop!

Overall this mascara is okay, but not for me.  I won't be buying it again because I don't like the way it feels when applying and it doesn't provide the dramatic lashes I like.  If you prefer a softer, more natural look, you might like it.

I have 2 fire depts. in my area and they post signs every 3 mos. reminding people to change the batteries so that's a prompter. And once you get into the habit you just remember to do it. I usually swap out the batteries in January when putting away the Christmas decorations and in July I just remember because of fireworks ;+) Well, actually both January and July are fireworks seasons around here and the word fire will remind me! It's a good system and works for me. But I do have a plus--my smoke alarms are electrical and the batteries are only power failure backups.

That is such a good system to regularly change your smoke detector batteries. Knowing myself, I would make plans for that weekend and forget all about it!

I've never noticed the more quality makeup brands getting thick & clumpy. Right now I probably have 3 tubes of mascara in my vanity drawer but they are all different brands so I know which one I'm using regularly. IF I haven't used all my mascara and makeup within a certain amt. of time I throw it all out with the batteries in my smoke detectors and my toothbrushes. Thus, I replace makeup, batteries, and toothbrushes every New Year's Eve weekend and Fourth of July weekend!

OMG! You use the same tube of mascara for 6 months!!!!!!!! Doesn't it get all thick and clumpy?

I use mascara 6 and 7x a week and can usually keep the same tube for about 6 months.

I actually only use one mascara at a time. If it is just okay, I will use it up, but if it really sucks like the (e.l.f.) mascara I reviewed, I will just throw it away and try a new one. Also, mascara doesn't last that long, so I am able to try new products frequently :)

I think there should be a special site just for people who review mascaras ;+) Where do people store the various makeup products that they buy to sample? If I don't like one I still use it until it runs out. I guess I'm with body washes and bubble baths like some ladies are with mascara ;+)

I meant to reply to your last note to me but hit delete by mistake. Yes, I think almay is off my list for mascara. I have sensitve eyes and skin so I felt almay would be a good choice. But now I am looking elsewhere for sure!

Yes, skip this unless you like very natural looking lashes. Thanks for stopping by dovey!

thanks for this review, I buy a lot of Almay, but will skip this.

Oh no! excellent review, but hate it when you get home with the excitement of a new make up and it falls way short!

You are not one bit crazy :) But then again maybe they did sell us something different...because there seems to be no other explanation for all those other reviews!

I am so glad that you agree with me! Did you see that everyone else gave it 4 or 5 stars? I was thinking to myself, "we are all using the same mascara right?". Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy :)

DiBellezza wrote on Mar 31, 2009 at 3:31PM

I agree 100% with this entire review! I even gave it a second chance and it still felt like a tube of old mascara.
