We had US Cellular to begin with but out where we live (in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees) our reception wasn't very good. I am one of those people you would consider to be a textaholic so when I saw that Alltel had a plan that would allow me to send and recieve unlimited text and picture text messages along with unlimited access to the internet for the low price of $19.99 I jumped all over it. I recieved a new phone (Motorola Rckr which I love) when I started my plan up in January 2008. In all honesty I have to first report that Alltel is the only cellular carrier I have ever used. Then let me go on to say that I have had an account with them for several years. I live in a rural area, and a common complaint for many people is dropped calls and bad reception. I have been a customer with Alltell for over 5 yaers now. In that time I have tried a couple other 3 other cell phone companies. The companies were Cingular (before they became the new At&t), Cellular One (before they became U.S. Cellular) & T-Mobile. These 3 companies I found many dissapointments in to include outrageous charges & bills that all of a sudden jum ped to an unusually high amt. after they had been approx. the same amt. for 3 or 4 months in a row. I love Alltel! I like their phones, I like their plans, but I almost left them recently. All of a sudden I stopped receiving service in my area. Everyone with Alltel around me experienced the same problem I was having , so it wasn't just me. They said it was because they "bought their digital roaming services" from Verizon and they no longer were in partnership with them. BUT I was still being charged full service for a phone I could no longer use at my home. I researched many different networks and this one had the most advantages. I can change plans as needed and will soon add my daughter to the plan. I received a LG phone for $28.00 with a 2 year service agreement. Alltel offered many other phones for free, but the LG met my needs. I love the personal network option and can call 10 numbers (11 including my home phone) without using up any minutes. This is at anytime of the day. I can also change my personal network at any time. I've been very happy with Alltel for several years, when I lived and worked in Arkansas and travelled throughout the mainland US. I recently relocated to Hawaii and have had a lot of trouble getting my phone account changed over from business to personal, from individual to a family plan, etc. Customer service is friendly but agents have made a number of costly mistakes on my bill and after almost 3 months of trying to work with them I still don't know if it's straightened out or not. Although Alltel is the only cell phone provider I've ever used, I think they are one of, if not THE greatest. I have many friends and family that use other providers and they have complained about poor service, high bills, not enough options. I love that Alltel has MyCircle and you can add so many numbers to your circle and not have it count towards your minutes of use. I only use a cell phone for ALL my phone calls and if I were to switch to a different provider, I'm sure my bill would be through the roof for all the minutes my husband and I use. A rip off if your phone messes up!

My phone stopped working so I took it in and bought a new battery. Then one month later it stopped again. I went back to the store and they said they could not help me as I had not paid my bill. But I had! So I called customer service and they had posted my bill but there was a "computer problem". So then I told them how my phone had stopped working and they said they could not send me a new one because I had not purchased phone insurance. I have had an alltel phone for many years. I currently have an old one that looks like a race car. I like it because it has the alphabet separate from the numbers, which makes it easier for me to text my husband, who is deaf. This phone has made my life easier. I have had good look with alltel. Over the years I have learned which area store to visit and which ones to stay away from. Being able to change your plan as you need to is a great option! I am thoroughly impressed with the coverage area- my LG phone will work in rural areas where other phones and carriers do not. — Customer service rep was awesome... have not met one I didn't like... have had service with Alltel for about 1 1/2 years now, switched from Verizon and am so glad I did! — If you are in the military, or have a .mil email address, you can save 15% every month on your bill by using your military email address to receive online statements. My family had alltel for a while. We didn't have any feelings on it, positive or negative, until we realized that we were getting a LOT of dropped calls. We had poor reception at our house, even though we lived close to the cell towers. The customer service was crappy, too. When I had a phone that was malfunctioning due to no fault of my own (it was only a week old, too), they refused to replace it because the insurance said they would give me a phone that was the same exact one, and they were out of that model. My service is ok, course its the only service that is available here, as I live in the mountains. But customer service is low on my list. Unfriendly at times. I have been with Alltel for 6 years with no problem until I had a financial crisis. Although I paid what I could and eventually paid it off they were quick to turn it off without trying to understand or make some kind of plan to pay it off Quickly. It only took me one month later to pay it off which I was sorry it took so long as I'm not in the habit of doing things like this. I swithched to this company after several years of using a prepaid phone that I had "outgrown." With ten children, working nights, and becoming a single parent rather suddenly, I needed a way to keep up with everything and everybody. I enjoy having the ten that I can call for free (guess who that might be), and beign able to contact a human without a lot of effortis a wonderful thing--something that was almost impossible to do with my other service.
