Alltel —
I've been very happy with Alltel for several years, when I lived and worked in Arkansas and travelled throughout the mainland US. I recently relocated to Hawaii and have had a lot of trouble getting my phone account changed over from business to personal, from individual to a family plan, etc. Customer service is friendly but agents have made a number of costly mistakes on my bill and after almost 3 months of trying to work with them I still don't know if it's straightened out or not. Despite "nationwide" service, I learned that in Hawaii I only have in-network service while I'm in the city of Honolulu -- everywhere else is roaming, which costs too much to live with. I would recommend Alltel on the mainland but definitely not over here in the Islands, and I'll be forced to switch to a new carrier (don't know who yet -- am still researching) in the very near future.
