I was with Allstate for about 12 years. I had both my auto & homeowners insurance with them. Every 6 months my premium increased. (I had a completely clean driving record & great credit.)
Then, I was rear-ended while sitting at a red light. What a nightmare! Allstate immediately sent me a notice stating my insurance was being cancelled at my next renewal. Then, they would not pay for the damage to my vehicle unless I admitted fault?
Florida is a no fault state which means you pay for your own medical regardless of fault, but the property damage should be paid by the at fault party. The lady who hit me was trying to deny fault, so her insurance would not pay. After 6 months of fighting, I ended up paying for the damage & storage fees myself!
I finally hired a lawyer & sued both the lady who hit me AND my own insurance company, Allstate. It took 6 1/2 years to settle because Allstate & the other insurance company used their clout and money to fight me. I should mention I was out of work for 2 years due to the severity of my injuries & I am a single Mom. I was on the verge of losing my house. Luckily, I had a wonderful attorney who did not back down.
We finally won the case & I was found 0% at fault. I was able to pay off all the bills that had accumulated.
I won the suit against Allstate also because they should have paid for my vehicle & subrogated against the opposing insurance company. They did not show good faith. I would never insure with Allstate again.
I would consider insuring with the opposing insurance company, because they put up a good fight for their customer!
Also, I went online to price another company and saved 65% as a brand new customer with the new company! I have been with them for a few years & my premiums have reduced instead of increasing.
