Allstate —

My husband and I had been Allstate customers for about 15 years. When we first got married they had the best rates and we just stuck with them through the years. Every so often, I would check rates and they either couldn't be beat or was so close that is wasn't worth the bother to switch.

Then the day came when my husband was involved in an auto accident. It was his fault. The car in front of him took off and then slammed on his brakes. My husband rear ended him. He was written up as being at fault since he hit the other car from behind. No problem, we have good insurance. He filed his claim and was told that we didn't have auto insurance there any longer.

What? We mailed our quarterly payment off on time and there was plenty of time for it to have arrived. But our agent said the check had never arrived and we weren't covered for the accident. So much for having this same agent for 15 years. My husband didn't have many nice things to say to him and we took our business elsewhere.

Now fast forward 2 years. I receive a letter in the mail that we have "unclaimed" money in the State Treasurer in our name. We had no idea what this could be from. I filled out the paperwork to claim the "unclaimed" money and guess what it was? It was a check from Allstate refunding our insurance premium. Now why wasn't this sent to my home address that they had on file for 15 years? And why are they refunding money that they claimed they never received? Can I say that my husband was livid? I'm not saying that all agents are bad, but it was obvious that our agent was a liar.

I hope after reading this story you will think again when you hear, "Your In Good Hands With AllState". becuase they totally ripped us off and refused to pay a claim that they should have. This agent lied. If that is the way AllState does business, I don't want any part of it.

Well, but my agency give us a call every time if we missed our payment and forgot about it
If we missed their call then they send me an e-mail or regular mail to informed me. I guess not all agent are like my agent.

My agent does everything he can do unless I forgot to give him the changed phone number or changed address. You need to update your address whenever you change! I'm not a big fan of Allstate but I think it is not fair to not receiving any mail or phone calls when you don't give your new address with your agent.

And deckbosn is right!. If you didn't have insurance for a while then you should have DMV letter that tells you that you don't have insurance. It sounds odd to me too.

My FT cruiser was stolen when I borrowed it to my friend. Someone had stolen it when it was parked at his house. I have a loan left about $24000; me and my husband were very desperate. But allstate gave us full amount of $27000 !!! more than we expected.

They don’t treat their customer like nothing as you said, I still believe allstate is a good company though

No letters, nothing. I agree, this was the agent and not the insurance company but it sure does give Allstate a bad name.

That's low and underhanded I can't blame you at all. If we don't pay on time they penalize us, yet they can break all the rules and the government does nothing!

you never received letters from the insurance company stating that your policy will cancel or letters from the DMV stating that your insurance was cancelled? sounds odd to me. I have worked in the insurance and automobile repair industry for 12 years and this is a very very rare case. It seems that the agent dropped the ball and not allstate.

We did, the problem was they had the check in the office but didn't deposit it. So their word against ours. I'll never do business with them again, that's for sure.

I would be checking when your payment was cashed against the date of the accident then contacting the insurance commissioner. That just sucks big time, sorry you went through all that. I have never like them because they always spoke to me as if I were a child. Those good hands people are underhanded..........ok I will be nice and not say it. ;)
