Beware - Allstate may "lose" your newer, higher value policy

My parents house and cars were destroyed in a tornado. It took a week for the Allstate adjusters to come - meanwhile my parents were not allowed to touch anything so whatever might have been saved was ruined by the elements and mold not to mention looters. (Neighbor's insurance companies where there within days.) It's been over a month and my parents still have not been paid. The agent told my parents many things that never came true - like they are entitled to rent for a year when the company says oh no that's capped at $300 (after my parents had spent over $1000 for a hotel room for two weeks). Also, Allstate was shocked and likely dismayed to find that my parents still had copies of their policies. Allstate tried to undercut them and tag them with a previous policy that was worth thousands less. Very important to keep copies of your policies in different places and not trust the insurance company. I'm shocked by their treatment of my parents and will never use them. I guess the moral is they are a good company - as long as you pay and never file any claims. Might I add that my parents paid on this house and car policy for almost 30 years!!!!!!!!!

You offer good advice, many people glance at the policy and lose it or toss it. It is important to keep them in a safe place and be able to use them when you need to.
