Allstate Review

I had no idea that Allstate insurance co. was the WORST in the nation until I had a claim.  I had researched them and found nothing bad, but way later I did.  There is an article that states they train their people to lie and pt on boxing cloves to avoid paying claims.  I'm here to tell you that's very true.  My home was destroyed (can be fixed) during a tornado in May of 2008.  I had to fight for 3 months to not only get the $ to start the rebuilding, but to get us in a home that was accessable for my mother.  I ended up finding the house.  I have been around the world with them and still am dealing with them.  The problem? National Catastophy team people - contracted by Allstate to do claims.  This doesn't just apply to Allstate either.  State Farm, most of the large companies do this.  Some of the smaller good ones don't.  Allstate is also known for not paying on car accidents and not honoring the accident forgiveness deal they offer.  They'll tell you that you have it and you find out later you don't.  I met with the Insurance Commissioner from GA aprox. 6 weeks after the storm - he does town hall meetings for hit areas.  I was advised to really keep an eye out on what's going on and stay in touch with them as I needed them.  I could write a lot more on them, but if you search for the 10 worst insurance companies you'll find enough on any company to form your own thoughts.

My point in all this is check out your insurance policy close.  If you're not sure what you have then get someone to go over it with you and be sure they're being honest.  Tape record the converstaion if you have to.  I sure wish I'd done that more times than one.  If you have a morgage on your home, good luck if a catastropy hits.  I'm not the only one that has had bad luck with insurance companies during a storm.  I've talked to people that don't have Allstate and a lot of them are going thru the same sorts of issues.  Allstate's name has been brought up the most though and I know the state is looking into some of the issues with them.  JUST BE CAREFUL AND KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE IN THE WAY OF COVERAGE.
