I am a daily coffee drinker and have about one to two cups in the morning. I love coffee for the flavor and pick-me up. I have tried all sorts of different brands and blends of coffee, and I guess I'm kind of a coffee snob because I always seem to end up liking the expensive brands. The typical grocery store brands like Folgers and Maxwell House really do taste like "dirty water" to me. I often hear that description from people who don't like or drink coffee. I always tell these people that they should try a different brand because it really makes a difference with coffee.
I recently tried Allegro's Whole Foods Blend because it is marketed as a light and dark one, and I said I had to try it to believe it. It's true :). This blend actually tastes good when I make it light or dark. Most other blends end up tasting like "dirty water" if you don't use a lot of coffee grounds. This blend is also not over-powering when you use a lot of grounds. Not sure how they did it, but it works for me.
Yes, this blend is only available at Whole Foods, but it is worth it. The full retail price per pound is on the high side (costs more than Starbuck's), but the quality warrants it. I think it costs about $12 or $13 a pound.
