Quick View: I have written a lot of reviews about my various written journals and how much I love to hand write in unique journals. This journal, All About Me, is more of a gift to someone after it's filled out or good to give as a gift and ask for it back filled out. Filled with all kinds of questions to answer, this journal gives a snapshot of the person filling it out, from simple things like favorite color to complex things to biggest regrets. I bought one for each of my sons to fill out and give back to me. I filled mine out for them.
About All About Me
This hardcover journal looks like a thin book. The cover is black with simple white writing. Inside, it starts right out with personal information to fill out. Then it is broken into many categories such as family, emotions, wishes and dreams, morals, favorites, fears, and much more. Some questions are fill in the blank, some are yes or no and some are multiple choice. Each section reveals different things about the person filling it out and, I found, as I filled out this journal, I learned a lot about myself. For instance, when I was asked to put color with emotions, I really had to think about it long and hard. Was happiness blue? Was anger red? My answers told me a bit about myself.
When I got to my biggest regrets, I got emotional as I wrote about them. When I got to my proudest moments, I also teared up thinking back to those times. The section on family also really hit home. My parents have both passed on and I have a lot of unresolved emotions about them. Filling out things about them caused me to think back to happier and younger days and gave me insight to how I really felt deep down inside.
When I got to the section about who I would like to speak at my funeral and how I would like to be remembered, again, I got emotional. That's pretty deep.
Once this journal is finished, it can be kept for yourself but is so much better to share with someone you love and whom you want to know you better. I filled the journal out for my sons so that, someday, they can see who their mother was at age 43. Obviously things may change over time but this book will be a snapshot of me when my sons were 21 and 17 and I hope they take the time to read it someday. I wish my parents had done something similar so that I could read it now.
This journal makes a great gift filled out for someone you love and also a great gift for someone to fill out. I would buy my husband one but he would never fill it out. He hates writing and that's a shame. He's missing out and so am I. I'd love to read what he has to say. I hope my kids fill the journal out for me. They can skip the really personal stuff but I would love to read what they have to say and, someday, they will look back on their journals and laugh at their answers since they both have a lot of maturing to do. If you're looking for a gift for someone, this is a great idea.
My Viewpoint
All About Me is an introspective, fun journal that asks everything from the simple stuff to complex. It has a variety of ways to answer from filling in blanks, to picking from a series of choices, to either/or or yes or no questions. This book makes a great gift filled out for someone you love or blank for someone to fill out themselves. I give this interesting, introspective journal 4 stars. I would go with 5 but I wish it were longer and asked more stuff. Still, there is plenty to keep anyone busy for quite a long time!
